Anime 4K transfers are mostly shit because the Japanese nuke them with DNR obliterating grain and details. You can count the number of transfers that are just a straight upgrade from previous releases on one hand (Perfect Blue, Angels Egg), some are a mixed bag with better resolution and DNR not applied to such extremes (Ghost in the Shell, Paprika) but the rest are hideous garbage and not worth your time. I watched some of Miyazaki's films in cinema last year and going from Castle of Cagliostro (new 4K transfer) to the Ghbli films, which have no new 4K scans was a night and day difference, you could clearly see the loss of detail in Cagliostro. I retain some hope that Japan will learn someday, hell even Disney started to rehabilitated themselves with regards to physical releases of their classic films and the 4K discs they have started to put out are fantastic.
