That being said, I always thought that the author should have thrown Yoshimori a bit more of a bone with how things turned out. The conclusion with his mother is kind of a downer, by making her so ultra autistic that she didn't manage to truly connect to him until the very end. Also, while he definitely managed to step on the right path with Tokine, it wouldn't have hurt to let him navigate out of the "younger brother" zone a bit more in the epilogue. The ending was a bit too down to earth, with an extra helping of bittersweet.
