The Empire did some evil stuff, but isn't trying to kill Serie. The shadow warriors guy are also just people too focused on their mission rather than being actually bad people. Even the bad guy is not a cartoon villain, he's just someone with deep resentment against elves and understand their existence is dangerous since they can grow so strong due to not aging and being able to accumulate immense mana. Even Übel, which literally means evil, didn't do a single evil thing yet.The only fucked up thing we've seen thus far is the first class mage exam allowing killing, but then again nobody killed anyone, so it doesn't matter.

Demons are nothing more than enemy mobs from Dragon Quest with a nonsensical and contradictory explanation tacked on as to why they always initiate combat encounters despite having dialogue. Horns exist specifically to distinguish them from human pixels.(2)One that might just be a little bit probable after the author decide to give a whole art to demons. The evolution explanation is nonsense. A red herring. It is peddled in-setting by humans/elves who just want psychological defense against guilt of killing human-shaped creatures who beg for their lives, and by demons who actually get a murderboner and want excuses. Which is, by the way, unusual - it is said time and again, that an average demon receives no positive emotions whatsoever from killing humans, it is an action on the level of mowing your lawn to them. That, however, would be unthinkable for a natural predator. But the last chapter of the manga offers an explanation, even if one not yet confirmed as actual truth. Demons (just like magic in general) are not natural to this world. They were created. And presumably they were created to wipe out humanoid races.
