How do light novels turn a profit when the english releases are getting print runs of only 200 and 400 copies?

The stuff that's popular covers the losses on the rest.

Seems like the Korean novels are covering the light novels then with print runs of 60k.

You’re assuming the biggest consumers of Light Novels are in English speaking countries.

There are way too many variables to consider and we don't know the majority of them. One big one is what percentage of sales are digital?

Seven Seas suggested at a BL con earlier this year that LN sales (in general) are trending digital which is why they're not doing physicals for some new LN licenses. I would suspect similar for other publishers.

Apparently danmei is the complete opposite, with sales trending physical.

They don't.

Digital sales. Physical are for the hardcore fans of already established popular shit.

The question is who the fuck buys digital when pirate rips are always available.

Paper is ridiculously cheap to print and homies probably writing the thing for maybe $500 plus a cut of sales including digital. Theres a reason authors these days tend to jump on the digital bandwagon
>>
What if you had struggled your entire life to be a proper normalfag, got married, had kids, and those kids read a fucking korean webnovel on paper. How justified is killing your family at that point?

The foreign distributors probably aren't paying any big bucks for the rights to sell the translations and the original LN author likely isn't getting paid that much unless the series is very popular.
Printing stuff is very cheap for a larger company.
