Gluck has to put a cigar into his mouth and light it, and when Macht speaks, it just falls out. After Macht says "don't come closer or I'll kill that man", Gluck steps even closer to him and squeezes his shoulder, before moving away. He is perfectly aware that Macht is lying to protect him. Both to make him step away in the first place - remeber, immedately before that Gluck said he's ready to go to hell for the sake of Macht's dream - and to give him that "Macht tricked me" excuse to avoid the gallows for collaborating with a demon, that Gluck later adamantly refuses to use.

The entite point is he was never really able to feel empathy towards humans, if he did the bracelet would have killed him.

But he, if anything, only reinforced the idea that sacrificing some humans for the eventual greater good is acceptable. The second sad thing is, Macht only realized that he had an actual friend, as Diagoldze was already working its way through Weisse. Before that he was sure that Gluck only likes the persona he's putting on for interaction with humans. After that Macht sits in one place so long that he loses track of days, and appears to be downright disappointed that that bracer did not kill him.
