Finally managed to read a shoujo romance that didn't make me cringe my face off. A couple "wtf is the author doing moments" but overall so sweet.

our precious conversations was good shoujo romance
i mean at the same time it really doesn't feel like a shoujo romance. I know that's kinda like no true scotsman ish but its true

I'm still unsure of how to feel about the big relationship conflict in this one just because I don't fully understand how seriously people take the college entrance exams so I can't gauge how realistic their decision to completely backoff once he begins studying.

her flirting with the blond bishie so much is some absolute female author giving in to shoujo brain bullshit though

College entrance is basically the 2nd biggest thing in a jap's life after marriage/first child. A lot of schools encourage or force seniors to quit their clubs/sports 1/2 through their senior year so they can focus on entrance exams, they have an entire economy of cram schools (after-school classes to practice for college exams) and they have a turn for somebody who flunked their exams and is late for attending college (ronin, same turn as a masterless samurai).
It's a very big part of their autistic culture.

Stiil feels really contrived that a couple that's been dating for a year would go 0 contact over this. like not even the occasional phonecall to stay in touch.

It's just a tired trope, it happens in a lot of romances, especially with a woman author.
Not sure what popularized it but it's in a whole lot of shoujo/josei that I've read, usually with side couples though.

makes sense that it's just a trope, it's so non-sensical because I can't imagine is so fucking draconian that they would tell students to wholly abandon humanity and all inter-personal relationships just to fit in an extra 2 hours of studying a week
