No matter how much they try to push this narrative, it won't work. There's only one Big 3: One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. The Big 3 was a very specific moment in time just like the Messi-Ronaldo rivalry, it's not a shifting title. If it was, then One Piece would always have a seat at the table regardless of what the other two spots are and that's not useful as a distinction.

The Big 3 are: One Piece, Naruto and Bleach. That's set in stone and immutable.

MHA was the most direct and qualified successor to the Big 3 by trying to play the same game as them and be a long-term commitment, but while it got big it never became a phenomenon on the same level, because anime was already beginning to fracture due to the rise of streaming and increased volume per season.

Black Clover was never in the conversation, and the anime had a rocky start exacerbated by the over-the-top voice acting which impacted people's perception of the franchise.

JJK came out much later after MHA, and by that time, smartphones, social media and streaming services became commonplace. People started discussing seasonal anime much more. And people started watching them more to be "in the now." Things have more or less equalized.

DS made no significant sales or popularity for 3 full years of its run and only just became popular at the end of its lifetime as a thanks to the anime that gave the mediocre source material steroids.

Also, Rurouni Kenshin isn't anywhere near on the same level as DB, YYH and Slam Dunk in sales and influence and YYH ended before WSJ reached its peak. There was only a Big 2: Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk.

Oda (One Piece's author) is best friends with Toriko's author and he told Jump and Toei that Toriko was the "Next Big Thing, a multimedia franchise on par with Dragon Ball and One Piece" so they pushed the shit out of it during the 2010s giving the 4 animated crossovers with One Piece, 2 with Dragon Ball, multiple videogames, movies and an anime series, it didn't do as well as they hoped so the anime never adapted the later parts of the manga and had an anime original ending

I'm sure Slam Dunk is very popular in Japan and Asia in general. But I still can't bring myself to care about it. I could just watch the dominant 90s Chicago Bulls instead of having to read about Japanese high school kids loosely based on NBA superstars. That's also why Slam Dunk didn't really take off in the West.
