Hello, /a/, zoomoid here,I have a lull in my anime viewing lately, and I was looking at some older stuff worth getting into. I've heard a bit about Haruhi and how it's sort of the prototype for a lot of anime tropes still used today, but I was wondering if it's actually still worth checking out now? The reason I'm asking is because discussions about Haruhi seem couched in the time period it came out, which makes me wonder if it was only special because of the point in time it managed to occupy. I think of anime like Elfen Lied, or Sgt. Frog, which I've heard were huge back in their day but lacked staying power. So I guess I'm worried if I'd just be wasting time on an anime that's only good as a historical time capsule. On top of that I hear complaints like:>Haruhi is an insufferable asshole.>The protagonist is so bland that he's the blueprint of all modern bland anime protagonists.>Debates over the watch order that greatly overshadow any discussion of the show itself.>Apparently nearly 2-thirds of season 2 is just the same episode on repeat. So is Haruhi still good? She does seem cute. Also general Haruhi Suzumiya thread, I guess.

it is worth watching because of nagato
>>287300858it's worth watching it because the movie is one of the best ever made possibly. the series has a lot of themes that go under the radar so definitely worth watching in fact i've been thinking about rewatching it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE-qmHdZIKU
What's a zoomoid?
>>287302284something with the shape of going fast
>>287302212Even though you're right this speech is probably the least subtle/most in your face part of the way Haruhi handles its themes. Of course it's not that easy to convey succinctly.
>>287300858Watch it or don't, faggot.
>>287300858Haruhi is, to this day, one of my favorite heroines. Yeah she can be an asshole, but she does grow throughout the story, and she is endlessly entertaining in addition to being cute and extremely hot.
