I'm genuinely surprised all 3 of these anime flopped. Do anime fans really not like young boy adventure-action shows anymore?
maybe make something with good art next time lol
>>287302414Dai no Daibouken had 100 episodes over a two year period and Yaiba's getting another season soon.
>>287302414How the fuck were Daibokan and DB Daima flops? I could maybe understand if you said that Daima wasn't up to Super's standards in popularity, but that's "underperforming" and far from an actual flop in practical terms. And no, I did not like Daima. Btw, Daibokan was fucking amazing.
>>287302414They didn't flop. Not achieving massive success does not mean being failures.
>>287302414DB was never about ADOBENCHA and even for ADOBENCHA Daima was fucking SHIT.And it was dead on arrival the second they turned everyone into kids. GT 2.0 was NEVER gonna be successful no matter what. And then it's ANOTHER interquel and it's even before fucking BoG at that too when people had been waiting for years and years for Super to continue making it one of the most mistimed series ever in history.Yaiba is an old-ass shounen that was never particularly a super popular big hit that brings nothing new or interesting to the table anymore. It's simply too old school. Same with Dai.
>>287302414>Dragon Ball fucking Diaper Bait thread.
>>287302414pic related did well
>>287302414Make it fourAlso I thought Dai no Bokuen did well in Japan? I know with Yaiba at least the first court did really well but the second performed poorly because people didn't care for the new groups of villains in JapanAt least a season 2 already got greenlit because it's a passion project by the staff
>>287306837Also the next Yaiba arc starts strong so I assume it will perform better than its second cour
>>287302414I loved Dai, really endearing characters. Popp is literally me. Dai himself is at least inoffensive. I couldn't get into Yaiba at all since the protagonist is such a little shit and the supporting cast doesn't help much.
>>287307010Riku Sanjo is a really great writer, I still don't get how he was able to write something as mediocre as ZIGA
>>287307034How's Beet?
>>287302555/ThreadYou can't make a sequel installment/remake to something iconic but male the art terrible and the plot dumb.
>>287307053Really good but in a state similar to D.Gray-man where we only get one chapter every 3 months and occasionally there's breaks due to the artist being in poor healthSo despite being a good manga the release schedule is hellish
Diaperpedo tried to sneak themselves in.Daipa doesn't even reach the ankles of Dai and Yaiba.
>>287302414All of these 3 were successful in Japan what do you mean? This one >>287306837 is the only one that legitimately failed
>>287305755>DB was never about ADOBENCHA Except for the fact that the first arc was literally an adventure, and so was most of the RR army arc. In fact, the manga only drops that aspect completely once it reached the 21st budokai. Did you even read the manga? I bet you're american, you reek of one.
>>287302414Wasn't the new Yaiba a passion project from a couple of the Mob Psycho team?
>>287302577That's because they're externally funded projects and not reliant on broadcast success. Dai was commissioned by Square Enix, Yaiba by Shounen Sunday/Aoyama. That's why both were announced as complete adaptations as well.>>287302609Daima largely had very poor broadcast shares, often not charting at all, and its BD + merch performance was weak.Daibouken failed to revitalize the Dragon Quest Dai brand in the way Square Enix had intended. >>287308974They really weren't. I mentioned Daima and Dai already, but as for Yaiba, it had okay broadcast shares and then disastrous BD/DVD sales and merch sales. It mostly coasts by on being in close proximity to Conan.
>>287306837Didn't this drop the fanservice?
>>287310021>That's because they're externally funded projects and not reliant on broadcast success>but as for Yaiba, it had okay broadcast shares and then disastrous BD/DVD sales and merch sales. It mostly coasts by on being in close proximity to Conan.Eh, calling them "disastrous" is kinda stretching it. DVD/BD sales are not really the main metrics of success with this kind of show, especially with $150+ upwards worth of collectors' boxes that only monied otaku can afford, while they're not the target audience. The target audience(kids and families) can just watch it live or on streaming.
>>287302414Dragon Ball was never about "young boy adventure initiation quest" but about martial arts and comedy.Daima is a GT clone turd.
>>287302414The hilarious part is, 2 of these shows are getting shafted so that One Piece can get adaptions lmao.
>>287305351You might as well be screaming into the void here, as Amerimutts/Anglos seem to be under the impression that anything they don't like or that did not explode into Demon Slayer or Solo Leveling levels is a flop.
>>287310021And what's your source for all fo this? Not like it matters, I actually hate the state of modern DB, but its current model ensures it practically prints money. Even if BDs don't sell well, a few Daima skins here and there, a few cards for DBH, and including its characters in gacha events or in any of the currently existing games already made Toei and Banda return their investment several times fold (in fact, IIRC Toei hit another revenue record and surpassed One Piece as its main earner again while Daima was airing), just not on Super's ridiculous levels. It's actually why DB could afford to try more side projects, and the only reasons it doesn't is because they can't fool people by slapping Toriyama's name on it anymore.>Daibouken failed to revitalize the Dragon Quest Dai brand in the way Square Enix had intendedMeaning what, exactly? Does DQ of all things looks like it needs to be "revitilized?" It would be strange to do that with Daiboken of all things because it's not even based on any of the games in particular, in fact it's pretty much it's own thing.
>>287310253>adventure is when you copy JRPG and the MC fights a western style DragonYou fucking retard.
>>287310424>but its current model ensures it practically prints money. The DB merch that sells is generally reliant on big transformations and legacy characters, which Daima doesn't really have a lot of.In addition, the sales revenue when Daima was airing wouldn't have had anything to do with Daima, since the vast majority of its merch and tie ins weren't even out at that point. Daima itself wasn't even likely meant to be a merch driver but rather a Toriyama ego project (pushed by CC Tokyo rather than Toriyama himself).>Meaning what, exactly? Does DQ of all things looks like it needs to be "revitilized?"It does actually. A significant issue DQ has been trying to remedy since the 2020s began is how its fanbase is primarily middle aged in Japan and there is minimal interest from younger generations. Revitalizing Daibouken though is not the same as revitalizing DQ itself. There's a reason why Dai no Daibouken had the following release in quick succession>Kanzenban editions of the manga>A manga prequel>A short crossover manga>A new console game>A new mobile gacha game>Tie ins to existing DQ gacha>A debut in Jump Force as a launch character>A new complete anime adaptationThere was a concentrated effort from 2019 to 2023 to revitalize the brand, which failed.
happening rn
>>287310675>never read the original Yaiba manga>watch the anime with no expectations beyond having catched a few random eps of the old anime as a little kid>was meh on Sayaka but absolutely loved Nadeshiko>anime ends>pick up the manga for her>ah well, she's all but guaranteed to lose the Yaiba bowl but who cares? I just wanna see my sweet Naginata wielding princess>turns out other than her backstory as a loli, 99% of her character and screen time was made up for the remake>WTF?Damn was I baited hard. I did end up liking it to an extent though, and next season material is the strongest part of the story, imho.
>>287302414>floppedThat's not even remotely true. That's not even true on /a/; all three anime here performed well with anon feedback. Bait used to be believable.
>>287310424>in fact, IIRC Toei hit another revenue record and surpassed One Piece as its main earner again while Daima was airing),One Piece is their big revenue earner in 2025-2026. So that's a lie
>>287311092The arc right after the next might have another Yaiba bowl contender tho.But yeah, she was liked by manga readers enough to be promoted.
>>287310434But this what people who have never read OG DB believe about it because Gohan had a sword, extra pictures of scenes who never happened and Toriyama's arts for Dragon Quest. They believe OG DB is medieval chinese quest with western dragons everywhere and dungeons.
>>287311344DBZ actually has more adventure, travel to the afterlife, planets, timelines etc. Dragon Ball is mostly training -> tournament arcs. It's only really the Red Ribbon arc that acts like a quest
>>287302414>Do anime fans really not like young boy adventure-action shows anymore? The average anime watcher is no longer a young boy. Blame japs for not having kids.
>>287313050these are all boomer nostalgia sequel/remakes tho, kids like their Demon Slayer and shit
I fucking HATE adventure but saying Daima was an adventure show is bullshit.
>>287311465The Red Ribbon still features a lot of fighting and training, and feel more like a mixture between a 80's action movie and Wuxia, still with huge comedy except at Tao Pai Pai arc.
>>287302414>take anime known for boldly aging up the protagonist>let's age down protagonist to "pander" to fans of this anime >not even choose a new protagonist, just magically age down the current one in a desperate pandering move
>>287302414>>287307034Now I'm mad, Kamen Rider W Manga needs more translations we have so much untranslated content
>>287311092That Art looks unbelievable good, but the weird blush is giving me weird vibes, Loli/Shota artist?
>>287302414shota have no aura
>>287318661>shota have no auraGash Bell
Did someone say shota?
>>287302414Daima was just boring shit that recaptured none of the original and now we'll never see them attempt a lower power scale Dragon Ball adventure with everyone ever again.
