Is Billy Bat good?Urasawa is an insanely hyped up manga, but from what I've read he doesn't live up to the reputation he has online at all.I've read Monster and 20th+21st Century Boys by him.Monster was honestly fairly good all the way through for the most part, sometimes great even. 20thCB though I do not get the hype at all. I regularly see it on "Greatest manga of all time in the history of the medium" type lists and conversations but I think it ends up being a complete and utter trainwreck. It's fun at the start for sure though.I'm hearing lots of good things about Billy Bat and it's getting an English release soon, but I don't trust the hype after 20thCB. What do Urasawa skeptics think of it? The premise seems super cool, but so was 20thCB
>>287317193He worked with someone else to make Billy Bat. It's the most consistently good work he's done.
>>287317193It's a very fun read. Lot's of insane shit you could never see coming happens.
On par with 20th Century Boys in terms of retardation.
>>287317388Friend is unmatched in retardation.
>>287317333>It's the most consistently good work he's done.no, that would be Yawara or Master Keaton
I dunno if I'd call myself a Urasawa skeptic myself but I do find all of his stuff "predictably unpredictable" in that you don't know exactly what shit is coming, but you know when and how he's going to introduce that shit to you at fairly regular intervals (I'm sure you all know).Billy Bat is well done, from first to last, and I think it never got too convoluted, if at all. As well done as Monster for me, and more similar to it than it is to 20th Century Boys.
>>287317193It's pretty fun
>>287317333Pluto it's good.
>>287318314Pluto is mediocre. Geschidt can't carry.
Monster is good start to finish20thCB is incredible for the first half and then a complete shitshow for the second halfPluto same as 20thCB but in half the amount of volumes
>>287317193it's peak
>>287317193>I've read Monster and 20th+21st Century Boys by him.He can't write. There's no story. Don t waste your time.
>>287317193He's very good at drawing, his paneling is good enough, but I cannot stand how convoluted his stories are. At a certain point it feels like he's doing it for the sake of shocking you, or because he's forcing dynamism into a plot that already said what it needed to say.
>>287317193>Urasawa is an insanely hyped up manga, but from what I've read he doesn't live up to the reputation he has online at all.He writes manga for adults, so maybe wait 10 years.
>>287318619no
>>287320168
>>287319813Why? He's not working on anything right now?
>>287317193>Billy BatShazam?
>>287317193I really liked some things about it but I dropped it after the jfk assassination because it took too long for the story to actually progress and spent too much time building to what felt to me was an anticlimax. Flipping around between different protagonists is cool, but then sometimes it can kill the momentum, and I was not invested at all in the mixed american couple (and no not just because I'm racist) so by that point I just lost interest.I think Pluto is his best work by far because the story is relatively concise and to the point, the pacing is good, and it builds off of a solid foundation with it being an adaptation.
i am probably the only person in the world that has ONLY read Billy Bat from this guywas a wild ride but the ending was a big letdown, especially considering the buildup
>>287317193fuck off we're full
>>287317193Monster and Pluto are both very good. The rest are overrated. Billy bat keeps leading you on with "something!!!!" happening and it feels like there's never any real pay off (yet?). I'm like 80% through it and disappointed honestly.
>>287321889The something does come here and it's not completely infuriating unlike 20thCB.
>>287317193It's a mystery sandbox manga that predictably doesn't land the ending. Basically JJ Abrams on steroids.
