Are anime blu-ray too expensive?
20 years ago, no, because it was still new and DVDs were the standard, so BDs being expensive made sense. DVDs were overpriced, though. 15 years ago, when BDs were the new standard for home video, they were still priced very high on average because of Japan's home video market being that way. This would've been the time for the price to come down, if they weren't greedy / overly focused on niche audiences. These days? Only collectors buy physical media, so it's fine to be overpriced.
I hate that BDs are packaged with a bunch of cheap extras to justify bloating the price. No, I don't want the art book, just give me the fucking disks.
>>287325237Comparatively? Not really. I used to pay upwards of 30 bucks for a two-3 episode VHS tape. If you can get a full series for under a 100 bucks it's cheaper than before.
get a job
>>287325237As someone from the states:Compared to the past? No way, see >>287325710In general and compared to non-anime DVDs and BDs? I think so, at least a little bit. I think many times the main problem is distribution from Japan. DVD/BD expenses are much, much worse, which sometimes impacts international releases. For example, I know Toho does this with Godzilla releases. They make the international releases intentionally inferior to their Japanese releases to discourage Japanese buyers from importing for cheaper.
>>287325237The western releases are cheaper than they were 10 years ago. I remember basically any show being around 60 dollars. Now they're only 20-30 with inflated retail value that you never actually see them sold for. Sentai Filmworks is funny because all the shit listed on their site is 60 dollars and up, but they're always on sale.

>>287327910That's with the cost of video quality way lower than Japan or Italy BD release because of how many episodes they need to put into a single BD

>>287325237>BD version
>>287325237Depends on the anime and country, anime still cheaper now than it was back then and compared to JP who still does like 3 eps a disc vs everywhere else does season sets and complete sets, people even JP even import US sets because it's cheaper and they use the same region also if you live in some areas that have nerd type store you can find used anime for really cheap and DVDs if it's not a show people care or it has a BD so people got rid of their DVDs about gotten really cheap.
repatriating out-of-print US blu-ray sets from Japan for way less than the burgers on e-bay were scalping them for used to be one of my favorite things, thanks Donald
