For the past 15 years or so there´s been a steadily decrease on the quality of storytelling, animation and overall culture of introspection and contemplation that defined the medium on previous generations. True enough exceptional anime has always been just that, exceptional, one shouldn´t be reductive and cherry pick from a small group of great authors that have aged and stepped down but the real problem is no new authors are stepping up. Probably because the industry just doesn´t provide that kind of opportunities anymore and everyone just wants to play it safe to stay afloat. Can´t say i know how to fix that, all i can say is that if it´s not fixed the medium is doomed to fall along with the rest of the forms of contemporary cultural expression.
