I think it helps that i already liked what the animation director/character design did previously (to me, not by year) in L-gaim. He's the current animation director for aoi no miburo as well and most likely worked on a lot of your favorite shows without realizing. I realized after ideon that he's done a lot of recent shows i've liked as well.picrel is a mixed media LP cover that i love a lot. it comes down to what i value in fiction and irl. Artists, unique designs, personalities, storyline dynamics are more important than 'just looks good'. same thing with (fan)art. I value ideas and execution more than i value the final product 'looking good'. I've created more headcanons and plot bunnies off a throw away 'bad' sketch than i ever did with a basic 10/10 great fanart.
