Griffith is a mirror to Gambino, only loving Guts conditionally and finding himself resenting Guts for his budding strength both before and after he becomes disabled. Griffith could not forgive Guts for attempting to live a life separate from him or for proving himself physically superior. Thus, Griffith wanted to murder Guts. Griffith was the band of the hawk's father figure, with Casca being its mother. Guts was the child in this situation. Guts felt he was intruding on Griffith and Casca's bond, not wanting to upset the Oedipus complex (like he did with Shisu and Gambino), so he opted to leave instead. In Griffith's dream, before the Eclipse, he dreams that Guts is his son. Griffith is an abusive father figure to Guts, selling him out just as Gambino sold Guts to his rapist, not for even any dream, but at its core, solely to punish Guts. Griffith consciously tries to twist the dynamic from himself being the father to being the son in order to torment Guts, because he can't handle being almost thrust from his position as the ultimate authority over Guts's life and death. This doesn't mean Griffith didn't remain the father/rapist, though. Griffith's attempts to erase the past through culling anyone who might speak out on Guts's behalf, and relying on Guts's kind and private nature to not tell the real truth to anyone who will listen (Rickert), mirrors the physical and mental gag around Guts's mouth during his sexual trauma preventing him from talking about it with anyone. Falconia represents Gambino's men, ignorant followers who hunt men down who have opposed him who have no idea the underbelly of what he has done because of the code of silence his power has caused.
