>literatureUgh GROSS
>>287384130As all harlots have been at some point.
>>287384146Fucking LEAF literature, no less
>>287383999I look like this IRL
>>287383999She was so molestable
That's not the Anne Shirley I remember
>>287384911She's so cute.
>>287383999The 79 adaptation eats this one like a cookie.
>>287384929I love her very much
>>287385113It's unfair to compare them considering the 79 version was directed by one of the best anime directors ever and the new version was directed by some nameless employee
i wish it was longer
>>287384810too bad she had to grow into a w*man
>>287385189Perhaps, though that still makes my point. And directors aside - it was baffling to spend near half the show's run time with a speedrun recap of what AnA already covered. It did AnA poorly, and because of the time spent retreading that ground the new material from Anne of Avonlea and Anne of the Island ends up having to be rushed as well. The pacing was a serious issue. The visuals and especially the backgrounds were predictably disappointing but that's certainly not a problem exclusive to anne shirley. The ost had some good tracks, but misses the human touch of having the characters themselves singing songs. It's an exemplar of how that industry has degenerated since the 80s crash. Same source material, but every aspect of it is done to a lesser degree, the episode count was less than half of what the 79 series had, and despite all the advantages of digital animation it couldn't make one breathtaking scene. That's not even getting into how the rushed pacing butchers the character development. Sometimes disappointing can be worse than bad, I really wanted Anne shirley to be good but it wasn't.
Only watched the 70s series, need a Diana wife
Anime was so good, I went to PEI this summer to see Green Gables!
Make more western literature based anime this decade
I want the 70s anime with the new artstyle
>>287385132The original "am I cute uguuu".
>>287386185>new artstyleugly
You now also remember Anne Happy.
>Anne marries her childhood sweetheart>Author's never did
>>287386427Actually Miyazaki wanted Anne to be a moeblob but Takahata refused. That's how they distanced and Miyazaki started working on his own projects instead of working as Takahata's main animator
>>287383999You now remember the (former) most recent spiritual successor to World Masterpiece Theater
>>287387379season 2 please.
The weekly threads were so much fun. I still look back on them fondly
Dropped it when they adopted the siblings and kept fawning over the little shit boy and treating the girl like trash
>>287386427Anne acted like a little girl. A weird little girl but you could see her innocence, boundless imagination and curiosity for the world. Modern moeblobs are basically aliens because they're made by people who can't stand watching at other people
>>287387925I could have sworn there were some Araiguma Rascal shorts in 2021 or 2022... Or maybe I am just dreaming.Any bets on the next remake? I put money on either Heidi or My Daddy Long Legs (which was a remake to begin with).
>>287385286 Nah that's literally the point though. The whole appeal is watching her grow up and mellow out while still keeping that overly dramatic imagination. Kid Anne is cute but Avonlea/Island Anne hits different. Seeing her go from carrot-top gremlin to composed young lady without losing that spark is comfy as hell.If she stayed a kid forever you'd just end up with seasonal moeshit that resets every arc instead of an actual life story. The bittersweet progression is what makes it kino.
>>287383999I now remember Anne Shirley.
>>287385113In the 79 version Annie was ugly and had an enormous forehead.
