Can someone explain to me why ghost in the shell (gits) is so revered?I watched the movie, SAC and half of 2nd SAC and thought it was terrible. The first movie did look very nice though.
Boob and exposed ass, but normalfagcore
there wasn't a lot of good anime back then so it stood out
>>287397058it is great
>>287397287What's great about it?
>>287397110this
>>287397058>"You see this popular and acclaimed thing? It's bad, actually."
>>287397983So all the popular shonen are actually good too?
>>287398113no one with 2 or more braincells thinks naruto, bleach or kny are great
>>287398141But they are popular just like GITS, so they must be good
>>287397058zoomers should not be allowed to watch anything made prior to 2010 and give their retarded takes on it
>>287398167nice post sweety but where is your argument?
>>287397058Anyone who creates a thread to say that an anime considered great is bad should explain why or at least name three better anime to have a laugh. Otherwise, I consider it low-quality bait
>>287398167I agree, government please help
>>287398369just because something is popular does not make it good
>>287398369>there is 0 tension in the show because the major will always save things no matter what>even if the major dies she just uploads her brain to /lit/ and circlejerks about philosophy for a bit before recovering her body>in fact, none of the characters ever suffer any real dangermy favorite part was when this guy blew himself up in a giant explosion and in the next scene the doctors were like "he will make a complete recovery"
>>287397370NTA. GITS captured a unique time in history where technology still felt magical and there was both hope an anxiety for the future as the Cold War ended. The story had an atmosphere you could lose your self in and had a great blend of scifi and mystery elements.
>>287397266Are you implying there's good anime fucking now?
>>287398808good answer
>>287398865Don't be too hard on him. He is an obvious zoomer who thinks old anime is bad.
>>287397058Because before everything was computer and social content was full of WOWJAPAN this was our window into how cool and cyberpunk japan was(n't.) All this techofuture bullshit doesn't hit the same today now that you can order hamburgers from the toilet using your phone, does it? Sent from my iTachikoma
>>287398236My argument is the axiom that young mutts like you are fucking retarded.
>>287397058>thought it was terriblesaying this is useless unless you elaborate.
>>287397058I had some problems with it as well, specially 2nd GIG, but I also think it was ahead of its time
>>287399726>>287398655
>>287397058Cause only high IQ people get it the first watch. Low IQ are filtered out. Tachikoma rule. And Sho-sa is the hottest woman you can’t have.
>>287397058exposure
>>287399855i was waiting for someone to simp for the major
anyone knows why SAC has a widescreen aspect ratio? wasn't it quite unusual back in 2002?
>>287400054>wasn't it quite unusual back in 2002?No. We had widescreen TV anime since 1999.
>>287400054Future proofing.
>>287399839The movie is a adaptation of the first story of the manga so of course none of the main characters get hurt.SAC is a episodic cop drama based on a spinoff manga so i don't know what you where expecting.Sounds like you went in wanting it to be something different instead of enjoying gits for what it is.
>>287397058GITS has always been a mixed bagmanga published sporadically.movie was vastly different.SAC first season was dead boring, and no fuchikomaSAC 2nd was better but still weak.other movies and series just trash.at the time it (and the other shit he did) seemed like it was distracting shirow from focusing on appleseednow it's clear shirow wasn't interested in finishing anything.GITS is just half-baked
It's a great show but major is just not a good character and has as much personality as a chair.
>>287400420She has more of a personality in the manga. They cut out her being silly all the time.
>>287397058I never liked the Oshii's movies, Innocence was mediocre
>>287400420Her role is to be the adult in the room to Togusa and Batou's more human and flawed characterizations.
GitS has fantastically detailed and thorough world building. It's super immersive and believable as an alt-history world. The designs of the mechs and cybernetics are great, and it's one of the definitive examples of cyberpunk as both an aesthetic and a storytelling genre. And the writing for it is also way, way above average for anime. There's basically no cliched dialogue, very little hand-holding exposition, and the plots run toward nuanced political intrigue and modern-day terrorism without a lot of the usual embellishments you see in anime series. There's no teenage bad asses showing up adults, the protagonists are competent but not invincible, and you always feel like you're only seeing a narrow slice of what's going on. GitS very convincingly portrays Section 9 as merely one part of a much larger bureaucratic entity, and that while Section 9 is involved in a lot of high level incidents, there's still even more that isn't their jurisdiction that you only hear about through passing comments. There's just not very many anime that have this kind of extremely well-developed setting and nuanced characters and plotting.
>>287400750Nothing in GITS makes any sense, least of all the mechs which weigh tons and are able to jump around like cats.Dialogue is peak cliche and everything feels like it was written by a 15 year old.Shit i think you just trolled me and i fell for it, well done
>>287400420unlike a chair the major has TNA thoughbeit so everyone simps for her
>>287400420funny that she only had a personality in the one episode in which she acted out of character
>>287400874>Dialogue is peak clicheI don't think you know what a cliche is. Show me an example of cliche dialogue from GitS.
>>287401200The entire show is full of it. Just take a look at the cast:>le hackerman>the supersniper >the family man cop>the dumb muscle guy>the smart femaleNone of them ever say anything outside of their very obvious typecasted roles
>>287401200take a pick of your fav cliche https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manga/GhostInTheShell
>>287401391You are confusing trope and cliché.
>>287397058GiTS the movie is just a good existentialist cyberpunk story with style and a little pop transhumanist philosophy. Novel at the time, still looks good, characterization is alright.I never liked the series much but that was just me.
>>287398113Yes
>>287398865yes
>>287397058You have over 20 years worth of videos, reviews, archived discussion and more. If you truly wanted to know you could've found it out yourself, so either you're lazy or just want to stir shit up as a contrarian.
>>287397983Yes.
>>287397983I think the board would actually be better off if we just perma'd anyone on sight who posts contrarian shit about classics from 15-20 years agoAbsolutely no loss for anyone
>>287400750My problem with anything Shirow is that while his aesthetics and worldbuilding are peak, the plot (apart from the first film) is basically mumbo-jumboThe manga becomes more and more gibberish towards the end, and don't get me started on Appleseed because that's basically gibberish from the start
>>287397058Its Japanese media about politics that people outside of Japan can enjoy without knowing anything about the bureaucracy of Japanese politics. Cyberpunk stuff is also rare, and cyberpunk stuff that isn't specifically action-oriented and over-the-top violent is even more rare. The formula of SAC is also similar to serialized cop/FBI slop that has always been popular in the US.The movie is well animated for its time (and even now, probably)
>>287400516Problem is growing up on SAC, I'm going to have a hard time seeing her act like a gremlin. Never had a problem with major being reserved and stoic. Though she did have a social life but its barely seen when she is hanging with her girlfriends briefly.
>>287404995Appleseed is the only thing he wrote with an attempt at a conventional narrative structure and character development. The issue there is that the story cut off part-way through. Appleseed Volume 4 ends on set up for a new arc, and that is it.
>>287397058thanks
