He gets amnesia, so forgets that there's a super safe and simple way to descend so they do the potato method of being shish-kebabed, beaten up by an old lady, having limbs broken... and this was all avoidable through the second layer, where the curse isn't so powerful...The second time he gets zapped by electricity it does the opposite - it floods him with memories and personalities. Faputa is kinda autistic - she's super smart, a quick learner but not really understanding why her insights or abilities are remarkably important. Guarantee later on the stuff she's waffling on about we'll all be like 'oh you're collecting souls' will make a lot more sense.
