Star Trek has always been progressive for the time it was produced in, it's literally about humanity achieving utopian communism where they abolish money and the concept of nation-states. TOS had the first interracial kiss to be broadcast on public TV and its protagonist seducing alien women in a time when you couldn't even show a married couple in the same bed together. It's also one of the first IPs to have shipping fanfiction.
