I've been rewatching it after 10-15 years or so.So far, the show excels when it's silly episodic adventures. The lullaby stuff was probably the best-ish mashima got when doing semi serious stuff. Reminds me a lot of Arlong Park, in that it's a pretty early story arc that does the best it can with the primitive elements of a long running shonen. Galuna is actually pretty neat too, but i have a handful of issues with. For instance, the whole arc feels somewhat pointless when it's revealed that Deliora was already a frozen corpse and that the villagers were demons. So if the heroes had failed, it really feels like nothing would have happened. Second, despite being such an important arc to gray, it doesn't feel like he changed much before and after it. That said, the arc did have some good stuff. Like Gray feeling shame on calling Natsu an idiot for taking such a mission when he did the same. Natsu stopping gray from comitting suicide twice, and him overall seeming pretty levelheaded and actually being witty in some instances like tricking a guy into paralysing himself. And Gray taking strenght in his fights with Natsu as a youngster. Also the joke of Erza falling for for the pitfall Lucy pointlessly set a handful of chapters before was a great joke. Currently starting Phantom Lord which i have high hopes for given the shilling it has had in these threads. But Tower of Heaven is by far the arc i'm looking forward the most.
