I fear I ventured too close to the sun because I'm starting to watch things with only an LD rip or dead seeds. It's rather fun watch something and know immediately who worked on it before looking up the information.

I thought greed was pretty fun. I bought the manga after watching and I'm waiting for it to arrive. Of course, it had some issues but i'm curious how the manga is compared to ova. I'd heard some things about it but i want to read for myself even if it means tracking down a copy.

I have to say xabungle isn't immediately absorbing me in to the plot like ideon. I'm almost offended that people called it greater than ideon in some of the older magazines
>>

It feels like a western somehow, or hollywood influenced. I wonder if this is why.

It's apples and oranges considering Xabungle is much more of a comedy.
>>
>>287490423
>more of a comedy
I would say that goes more to his other series than this one. If it's suppose to be funny nothing is quite landing like the humor in l gaim. It's not the genre or if it has or doesn't have humor, but rather just how uninspired it feels. it doesn't feel cohesive or throughly though out but just a bunch of stuff jumbled together. That's why I mention it feels like it was influenced by westerns or Hollywood because it wants to do one thing but it feels held back by the mech of all things.
>>
>>287484595
It's a good show.

I started watching Memoru a little while ago, an episode or two a day is nice.
>>
>>287490546
This isn't a hate on the show even if it might sound like that nor is it overly cynical but it's rather I feel like they avoid mech battling despite training for it, in favor of shoot outs. This is what I meant by held back by the mech. The mech feels a bit secondary and it doesn't know which direction it wants to go in like the plot is hesitant. In comparison ideon's mech feels like fits in to the world and the plot gets you absorbed right away.

I ended not being too big a fan of the series but ace wo nerae is quite fun. A lot of the earlier songs for anime feel like propaganda songs somehow. It's not a bad thing, just a technique used by the singers around that time.

>>287501818
I think digital is a really good medium for certain applications but it's all that is mostly used now (for promotions) I can't remember the last time i saw an analog magazine insert.
>>
double posting but I also think it would generate magazine purchases if they went back to the purchase x magazine for one entry to win x insert page. Older magazines had so many things you could mail in to win things like signatures, shikishi, official art, trinkets, etc.
>>
>>287501970
hell yea, it actually got you invested and excited and (foolishly) felt like you were part of the game scene instead of just a paypig customer. not to mention sometimes getting glimpses of what you will never end up seeing outside of japan. it added a lot of mystique that stuck in your memories. obv thats not a thing anymore but still. if they did more original mag only comics like nester it would add another reason to pick them up if only for collection
>>
>>287499174
It's really nice.
>>
>>287502092
Exactly. I have some old OUT and you had to engage with the magazine as well. It didn't tell you on the front or back cover what presents were in the magazine. I like them a lot to interviews to those working on current shows, staff comics, magazine staff comics, animators drawings, even down to the art people sent in. Hell l gaim had a short story epilogue published in a magazine

oh damn, you know this one of those things that gets a kid dreaming big of what could be if they chase a dream in comics, games and anime. i always enjoyed when they would show what fans sent in it felt so much more alive and some people were talented as hell, there had to have been some that went in and made a name for themselves
>>
>>287502577
That's exactly what happened to a quite a few artists around that time period (80s). Magazines also helped make industry connections. I just think it's a huge loss to have them anymore. I've flipped through a bunch even old newtypes in english. Magazines let the staff (producing company and magazine company), fans, and other people explore ideas that weren't in the shows, let them see new things, special interviews that didn't really stay pr-washed, and just a bunch of other community projects that simply don't happen. OUT doesn't do it too much but other magazines often had a doujin ad center. you were a writer who needed an artist? boom send an ad. You were an artist needing more members for your niche circle? someone would see it. I feel like this is so much better than asking in to the void on social media. Magazine subscriptions + stamps are easier to ask for as a teen than money to buy things.
I just miss that as a teen and now i do have money to purchase all of these now they don't exist so i have to buy old ones filled with fun things i'll never get to do.
>>
>>287501970

I'd say the core of it remains strong but if you expect a lot on the side it will drag and seem quite rustic. In retrospect it should've been better. But nothing quite like it got made again, and if they tried I don't think they'd capture the feelings expressed in this show.

A mecha show Nagahama, Yasuhiko and Tomino worked on isn't generic/slop.
>relegate the previous villain to replace it with another generic villain"
You say shit like this while asking for DBZ and Saint Seiya? They are the kings of that and do much worse. While lacking a cohesive theme like Dougram. And I like those shows.
