That's Criterion Channel which is completely different from Collection.

Criterion Collection is VERY selective and prestige-driven. It releases a limited number of titles each month as premium, definitive editions (with restorations, extensive supplements, and collector packaging). These are films Criterion has licensed and invested in deeply. Think canonical works by directors like Kurosawa, Bergman, or Godard, plus some modern standouts. Animation is rare here and only a handful of titles over the years, with Akira being a notable early exception on LaserDisc.

Criterion Channel is more expansive and flexible. It streams a large, rotating library (thousands of titles at any time) that includes many physical Criterion releases, plus a wider range of "classics and discoveries" from other studios or rights holders. Programming is heavily themed and curated into monthly spotlights, double features, director series, genre explorations, and guest selections which allows for more eclectic or unexpected picks that might not get a full physical release. This makes Channel feel more like a dynamic film festival rather than a fixed "canon."

This isn't news and it fits with Channel's style of surprising, fun, or thematic inclusions. They've featured anime sections and films before like Paprika, Redline, or other classics. It doesn't mean K-On is getting a physical Criterion Collection spine-numbered release, those remain very selective, especially for animation. It's just a streaming availability for discovery and enjoyment during that month's programming.

Having said that, I'll pick moe any day over isekai, harem and shounen battle shit.

As long as it makes shounen battle shitters seethe at the insignificance over their capeshit anime, I will advocate for K-On and moe.

If Bocchi the Rock is so good, why isn't it on the Criterion Channel?
