What did you think of Season 2?
No machtI slept
Needed even more feet scenes.
>>287516294This. Should have made Frieren go back to her sandal outfit for the whole season
>>287516262Boring ass monster of the week filler shit.

>>287516262Was good
I liked it, but I think S3 will be better.
>>287516262titled too much towards shonen battles and not enough towards SoL, I liked S1 better
At least Denken will be in the next one.
>>287516262Too short.
>>287516325>her sandal outfitNever wore such thing.
>>287516262It was Revoling
>>287516262It’s a good transitional season for greater arcs.
>>287516973I think it was proportionally more SoL than S1. It's just that S1 SoL was more memorable, there's really no equivalent to the ring scene, or the ball, or flower searching or Grandpa Voll. You will hate S3 though.>>287516262It was okay, but while making it a single cour might make sense long term considering the manga is in a hiatus hell, so the can't burn through the material exactly, it really hurst the season itself. There were some good stories in there, but no great ones. Though one thing that irked me was the silhouette autism. The manga doesn't give a shit and will just show you character when it naturally makes sense even if they're "hype", but the anime will blacken everyone out to add artificial mystery.
>>287517336
I lost my place in the fight with Jimmy Four-Swords I wasn't invested in at all and I ended up dropping the whole thingThey stopped doing the fun family guy skits and acted like they earned a namek, and they couldn't even deign to make James sexy for us like Aura and Lugner
>10 episodes in>Denken hype for 2nd half of the season>Actually that was the last episodeFUCK why is this season so short compared to S1?
>>287520711A popular theory is that it's because of the manga being in a hiatus hell. If they animated the Denken arc right now, they would have 43 chapters left, but 22 of that is an unfinished arc in the middle of a battle. So really they would have 21 chapters, so they could reasonably plan for a one-cour season in 2028... and then who knows what, we don't know if the current arc will even finish by then. Right now they can pace themselves better with Denken arc being late 2027, these 21 chapters fitting nicely for a cour somewhere in 2029, an by then there's a better chance things have moved.
>>287519194Thanks.
>>287520711Funding, probably, coupled with manga issues. Probably going to have Hellsing/Full Metal Alchemist disease pretty quick.
>>287521205Too bad the ost isn’t as good as Hellsing’s.
>>287521054they can just make OVAs.
I don't know why shounen has to do this "we don't have time / money / material / just want to hold back the good stuff to do the big arc you've heard of, but get hype for next season when we'll do the big arc you've heard of!" thing. Less this but what if I haven't heard of it? All you're doing is wasting my time. If you can't put together a cohesive satisfying story right now, why do anything at all? If you're contractually obligated to put something out this season, then make it clearer that I don't have to take it seriously. Why not something that's just the SoL antics people like? The LycoReco shorts last year were great
>>287516262i dropped it, and i read all the available chapters before the s1 of the anime was even announced to be made; it just isn't that entertaining.
>>287516973How is this opinion even valid? Most of the season was SOL.
>>287522247sword boy arc was enough to make you forget why you ever liked Frieren let alone what happened in the first half of the season
>>287516262I liked how comfy and SoL it was, and how much it played into reclaiming the white man's ancestral home from the violent demon invaders
>>287518571Mage exam started around about the last third of S1, with stage 1 and 2 being the out and out battle portions, most of this season was taken up by the revolte battleI think a better way to frame my argument is that I preffered pre exam to post since if we go strictly by season proportionality is unfair (28 eps vs 10)>>287522247revolte dragged, I was rolling my eyes at the asspull level during it, sure prev battles also had some pulls but not quite as much

>>287516262>Macht of the Golden LandMore like Macht Von Kino.
>>287516262Not to hate on it or anything but it felt irrelevant? Like you could skip it and no esencial information would be lost.
letdown. not bad, but a letdown. i felt like stark recovered from his fight against 4 arm snake man too easily and there was never any mention of being left to fight him with chuuni angelwing guy while frieren fern and methode dicked around fighting 2 warmup trash mobs. Personally i'd be fucking pissed that they waltzed back over without so much as a hey sorry for leaving you to it.
Give it to me staright mangafags. Will season 3 make up for how boring this season was? Will the hiatus ever finish?
>>287522998>frieren fern and methode dicked around fighting 2 warmup trash mobsThat was weird, I though that Frieren went away to let those two to deal with the flash mob and help Stark and whatshisname against snake guy, but no, she just stand there dicking around while those two back in the town were getting killed.
>>287516262For some reason I thought it was going to go all the way to the golden city arc. This season was basically a filler season until then honestly.
>>287523020Do you like Demon Slayer? Next arc is literally just Demon Slayer.

>>287530798nta, but "native isekai" could only work if a supposed fantasy world was highly video-game'ized.But none, especially frieren, fit that description.
Season 2 Frieren is a pastiche of Season 1 Frieren.
>>287516262Episode 8 and Hero of the south are good.
>>287530904yeah but that's not isekai, native or otherwise. isekai is not defined by video game mechanics. i hate to cite wikipedia but words have meanings. let's not do violence to language by inventing meanings because so many anime, especially isekai, has childish video game shit in it.frieren has practically no video game mechanics outside of that map that looked a whole lot like a HUD map in season 1. aside from that one scene it's been very organic, if not the most imaginative fantasy world, it certainly qualifies as fantasy.
>>287531039retards don't want to adhere to actual definitions, so you have to use their dumb logic to refute them.
>>287531081i'm not going to dumb myself down to their level. i will simply repeat the point that the word isekai does not mean what they think it does. i'm right, they are wrong, and that is all there is to it.
>>287523020Season 2 didn't have any major arcs and was mostly made of a transitional SoL journey, filled with small themes and messages. The third season will be a a single continuous major arc that will probably go for 12 episodes. If you liked what they briefly showed in the last episode with Denken, then you will like the whole arc.
>>287530904Yes just video-gamey at times. That fight with Revolte where at one point he was able to have complete map awareness easily parrying both stark and gaynau from back and front..until he doesn't. Almost as if his aggro meter got filled by stark that he just had to focus on stork mmmkkkay?
>>287531497now you're going full-retard into a completely different issue that has nothing to do with the original subject.
>>287531533What do you mean? I just opened this thread and I am agreeing with that anon. >>287516262I liked the adaptation. It put a good focus on Stark after he was absent for much of the previous arc and the episodic stories played to the series' strengths. The adaptation also did a great job of highlighting the human element during the two episodes fighting the demons. The voice acting and subtle details emphasized the characters' humanity even in tense atmospheres opposite the cocky, sociopathic demons.
>>287531678For all its faults, I at the very least appreciate that the arc bothered to make you feel that something was on the line
>>287532293Oh yeah the magic crystals, whatever happened there?
>>287532293>something was on the lineBruh the genau fight turned stark's torso into a flesh doughnut but he was doing the nay nay the very next hour
>>287516262That was it?
>>287529380>People trying to defend him always fail to mention his big experiment is purely for his own self-interestBecause it is not. How dying was in his self-interest? Despite characterising actions that entailed a possibility of death as "insane" even to his last day, he was literally trying to kill himself with the bracer. It is not up to the argument, it is his internal monologue. All demons have a compulsion to kill humans that is not rational, not rooted in any physical or emotional need (Macht himself illustrates that not eating humans is a simple as wishing so and confirms that Lugner was a freak for getting any positive emotional reinforcement for killing them, something that Lugner himself knew), and cannot be directly questioned by the demon himself. That's the whole reason why people in setting consider them predatory mimics, DemonGPTs, stringing together words without understanding the context - they think that solution for any problem involving humans, including trying to coexist with humans, is killing them, and when asked why answer with some equivalent "why the sky is blue?". This is so crazy, that those who cannot look into a demon's thoughts directly naturally conclude that the thing before them is not doing any thinking at all, or at most on the level of a hungry animal. Macht is the only demon so far who tried to fight against his nature. Alas, he only managed to win, when he was mortally injured, and even then failed to realize that he did.
>>287516262I liked it. It really was the breath of fresh air between what is going to be a pretty intense season next season. The golden city arc is one of the best in the series. Although I really liked the goddess stone arc as well. It might be my favorite.
>>287516262It was aight. The episodes that dealt with their date and the Hero of the south were my favorites.

>>287516262Its good. Its left me wanting but I'm sure the next part of the story will be well worth the wait. The series is pretty ambitious for a reason.
>>287516262I liked it.Not as enjoyable as the first season, but I liked that after the exam arc it returned to more comfy slice of life stuff. Stark and Fern's date was cute.A lot of anons have hyped the Golden Lands arc coming up as the best in the whole manga so I have high expectations for season 3.I'm also hopeful that we get to see more of Ubel and Land in the future. >>287531039>he posted it againI'd tell you to get a life but you never had one beep boop, motherfucker
>>287530082There's nothing meaningful to be gleamed from juxtaposing demons against human nature. They function more as viruses that are mechanistically designed to wipe out humans similar to how polio would but were defeated through humanity's capacity to make breakthroughs no thanks in part to our creative utilization of memory, similar again to how humanity defeated polio. Demens' overspecialize themselves to a wall. Their rigidity is the thematic jabroni to humanity's capacity to adapt. I imagine they will explore once again the inner machinations of demons in the Macht arc and it will be the same ever boring 'Look guise I'm le twisted cycle path laughing guy while he commits atrocities, I can't help it I'm le jonkler baby!'. NO. Give me more of episode 9. Now that I think about it the zoltraak guy needing to be resealed every few years reminds me of how the goyim needs to have booster shots every now and then. Must be why normies love this show so much, Frieren is Vaxx: the Anime.
>>287535365Anon, you are talking about some shit that does not exist outside of your head. Demons are the prime magic inventors of the series, the very first demon to have a long dialogue in the series talks about how they advance and adapt through hard work, Macht and Solitar studied human magic just for fun, etc. On the other hand, an average human mage is as much of a single-trick pony as an average demon.

>>287536047nta but Macht and Solitar are the hard exceptions that prove the rule. Although Macht still succumbs to the biological limitations of being a demon so the point about their rigidity being the thematic jabroni to human spontaneity still holds true. Also Lugner's speech about hard work are still in service to enhancing the one type of magic that each demon dedicate their lives to.

This thread reeks of underageb& shonenbabies
>>287537215>so the point about their rigidity being the thematic jabroni to human spontaneity still holds true. And again there is no such point. You can argue that the series is making a point about poor teamwork and individualism being the downfall of demons (although whether it does so successfully is another matter). But at no point it ever makes a point about "rigidity" of demons. It is a specific plot point that, for example, they have universally adopted anti-Zoltraak defenses half a century ago. As we can see from Revolte's posse, even grunt demons are perfectly capable of casting generic shields and generic beams, if their personal magic by its nature cannot be developed cover every possibility. The exact same as human mages. There is not a single case of a demon losing, because he found his/her arsenal lacking and got hard countered by something other than sheer power. Unless you think that Sense is a demon.

It has to assure us that there is a real threat. This is a Modern/Post-modern Manga. We know the protagonist will win. David will beat Goliath. The outcome of the story is a given and simply must be carried out. This is the modern theory.Frieren knows that battle is won. There's no need to pretend Fern and Stark aren't going to blast away the fodder demons. Not only it is extraordinarily rife with the illusion of stakes, but also that its method of achieving, but for the sake of that illusion Stark and Fern are constantly put into situation where their survival is really contrived, but nevertheless survive, to avoid portraying Frieren as a shit mentor.
>>287532293The Revolte arc was the most egregious example of how the show has no stakes and the demons always lose. Both Stark and Fern were utterly screwed but won anyway because reasons.
>>287537838Himmel is the most important person in Frieren's life. She's specifically retracing her steps with him to remember him and understand him better. It's the premise of the whole fucking show.
>>287542634Precisely. The moment Frieren assesses the situation, it's become a Foregone Conclusion that David beats Goliath. The mentor has judged the narrative level of Fern to be sufficient. I knew Fern was going to win and so did Frieren. Frieren's trust mirrors that of the reader. With that out of the way, we can focus on how Fern will manage to make it through the high-risk situation-teamwork, luck. The clash itself is now the focus. It meta-contextualizes the Classic Shonen blackbox. It's a new, post-modern approach that distinguishes itself even from Jjk/Game of Thrones/Killing Bites subversions where David doesn't beat Goliath to jab at the structure or the outcome is uncertain due to multiple Goliath-Davids fighting.

>>287538397Nothing wrong with that. I'm boring and that is fine. Most people are. Life is not an quinton tarantino flick, it is filled with awkward silences instead of quippy comebacks. Everyone's just feeling blindly in the dark hoping to cup some tit man.

>>287516262Bad and boring
It wasn't bad by any means, but to me it kinda felt like nothing really happened and it was just 10+ episodes of the same stuff as before, now just in the north. If it was a full 25+ episode season I don't think it would't have been as forgettable as this was, I can't really recall much of the season except them battling the 4 arm demon, looking for booze that tasted like shit and that bridge taking 100 years to complete when it looked like it could be finished in a few months
>>287516262Should have been longer. If it were 28 episodes like the first season, it would have covered Macht and possibly the Goddess Monument arc as well. I mean, I get that the third season is coming out relatively soon, but still. Season 2 felt like a filler. Why haven't they went with the two cours route?
>>287525369She'll be back in season 5.

>>287516262Lame, they should have skipped some stuff

>>287516262they could have just released this an hour long special every season until 2027

>>287516262it was mostly more of what we got from season 1, although I felt it missed any real high points.I'll be able to tell you a bunch of stuff that happened in season 1, but if you ask me what happened in season 2 in a year, I probably won't be able to remember much more than NotFulgrim
>>287556316Hero of the South and the Himmel journal episode were memorable
>>287555966Yes, they could not even bother to hide their mana to deceptionmaxx. Demonkin brings great shame to their ancestors' ways.
>>287542817>this show in particular has no stakes because the bad guys always loseFirst time watching fantasy and/or shonen?
>>287556008>They should have rushed through literally every single complete arc as soon as possible leaving them with literally nothing to adapt for a 3rd seasonYeah they totally should have put you on the production committee
>>287556008If they did Macht and Goddess Mountain now, with the manga in hiatus hell, it's impossible to tell when the new season could come out. We're 28 chapters past GM but 22 of these are a single arc which is still on-going. Last chapter released half a year ago, and even then it was just a 7-chapter batch, you need to go back to 2024 to get the last 10 chapters. We don't know if the series returns this year, and if it does we're unlikely to get more than another volume worth of content. The current arc could end in 2028 for all we know. Or later. Stretching out is the correct strategy. If we get one-cour Macht in 2027, then there's one-cour GM (+ smaller stories) in 2029, and by then hopefully they can start working on the Festival if it's wrapped up or close to and release it in 2031.
>>287555995>and that bridge taking 100 years to complete when it looked like it could be finished in a few monthsStrait of Northmuz got cut off so bridge materiels took longer to deliver
>>287556395To be fair, the series is actually sorta unique for a battle shonen published 90's and onward in how the heroes always win. Like, the only losses happen in the flashbacks or are avenged within a couple of chapters>Qual is killed right after getting unsealed>Aura and her minions are salughtered in their debut arc>the Sword Demon is killed the moment she meets the party>Revolte and his minions are slaughtered in their debut arc>Macht and Solitar are killed in their debut arcIt's only Goddess Monument that doesn't end like that, and even then the heroes beat the demons back. Which makes Solitar the only recurring antagonist, and even that is only achieved via time travel. Shonen protags usually hit the wall much sooner.
