dirty pair is one of those anime that started when there was no competition (just a few OVAs and shows aimed at kids), was pretty uninteresting but they kept doing it out of habit, and people have been trying to make it a thing over and over again
few IPs deserve to be forgotten more than dirty pair

The novels are good but I would not want modern hands anywhere near it unless yas is involved

This is half-correct. Although Dirty Pair is the first TV anime based on a modern Japanese novel, so it was the forerunner to the modern light novel to anime pipeline.

The thing with Dirty Pair is that each episode is a pastiche of either a genre or movie/book/game or sci-fi/thriller thing. So you absolutely could have one that parodies the various things that came out since the early 90s. Matrix/GitS episode, Taken/John Wick episode, Westworld/isekai episode, Dune episode, Marvelshit multiverse episode with multiple pairs of AU Dirty Pairs in it, etc. Dirty Pair is like a straighter Spaceballs or Excel Saga.
