With how popular Trigun is, does anyone remember Naito's other series? Awesome character design, really good dub, pretty interesting plot, and that classic madhouse artsyle. Seriously such an underrated seinen.

Obligatory reminder to always skip the first episode of Gungrave.

Yeah I really wasnt expecting so much of it to be flashback, I remember just thinking "wow this looks like black lagoon and hellsing but more western". Still was pleasantly suprised and I wish the games were better
>>
all I remember about this series is that BRANDON HEAT literally cucked himself to death
>>
>>287532520
He literally did lmao, his boss had a kid with his girl and in the present he has to protect their daughter
>>
I hate how they bow all the time Japanese-style. In a pseudo-America setting. Can't take this show seriously.
>>
>>287532590
I never really noticed that much, I kinda saw it as the same way everyone greeted each other on the Sopranos like hugging and kissing the cheek
>>
>>287531537
>Naito's
he only did character design
>>
>>287532640
Hes credited as the writer on imdb, id still say its still his series and his characters even if he didnt direct or animate it.
>>
>>287532685
looks like nonsense crediting on imdb. why would "creator" equate to "writer"

also the video games are better but no one has good enough taste to admit that
>>
>>287532706
Id like to think he still had supervision over the anime. Its been a while since I played 1 or overdose and i remembering thinking black, dmc, and bayonetta were just more fun to me. The most recent one also looked like garbage and ai generated but maybe ill give it a try
>>
>>287531537
Watched it years ago. The flashback was honestly better than the present story.
>>
>>287532784
I loved how edgy grave was, but I kinda agree i liked seeing how everything built up and it didnt feel slow at all
>>
>>287531537
I might be the only person to have like Kekkai Sensen
>>
>>287532754
not to say everything korean looks bad but gore is definitely visually korean in a bad way

you're meant to play them as score attack games not "character action"
>>
>>287532308
I didn't skip the first episode, and I didn't feel like it was that bad.
I always kept thinking "how does it go wrong", kept me more on edge.
>>
>>287533224
I never watched it cause it seemed too much like a kids shounen, but you are making me curious again
>>
>>287533224
I loved S1.

Should have been a BL show. The designs already match.
>>
>>287533224
That's such a ludicrous statement that I misread, Kekkai Sensen as Kekkaishi, and even for Kekkaishi there's at least 10 people on /a/ who remember enjoying it. Kekka Sensen is just generic studio bones kino with a killer soundtrack and some questionable anime original moments I can't imagine anyone who's seen more than 2 episodes of it actually dislikes it.
>>
>>287532504
The first game is peak casual gaming. Perfect drunk salary-man kino.
G.O.R.E is a fun time, especially after the bullshit was patched out. Still a little too long though, and the DMC-style upgrade system just doesn't work for the series. Story and artstyle were also crap.
Overdose is dogshit. Only good thing was the story and characters. Still want an anime though.
>>
>>287533224
Unless you are me, then that can't be true.
>>
>>287533334
>you're meant to play them as score attack games not "character action"
This. A lot of people get Gungrave wrong and think the games are some kind of DMC-likes when that's never what they were intended to be at all. FWIW, the GORE devs got the memo and the game is much more in line with how the first game is, but the character actionized bits in the launch game, along with the platforming, was the worst.

and beyond the grave!

It's a good anime but this is a hilarious thing to remember
>>
I feel like every other show from 2000 to 2005 is a doomfest and emocore. Hopeless individuals, bleak settings full of crime, despair or dystopia, everything going to shit.

the Lost Decade hit people hard and then things didn't get any better in the next decade
>>
>>287540178
You'd think we would have got more depressing crap in the 90s, after the bubble had burst.
>>
>>287540178
>>287540558
sorry uncs i wasn't born that year
>>
>>287540558
it takes a while for the people hit the hardest to grow up and get jobs as writers. most of what's made in a decade is in response to the previous decade.

So the next Gundam about Middle East wars is just around the corner?
>>
>>287540994
central asia wars, plague, and a superpower getting hijacked by a drooling moron with dementia
>>
>>287540994
That was 00 kinda, Setsuna is a middle eastern child soldier

00 was a response to the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. I'm still waiting for my Syria civil war and ISIS anime.
>>
>>287541337
you got IBO for that
>>
>>287531537
People used to talk about it a good amount here, hell i still remembered seeing the ps2 games in stores on clearance. The mafia story in the beginning is still the best part.
>>
>>287541403
Not really. IBO was more about private military companies, a colony revolting against the HQ and child abuse.
>>
>>287541851
>private military companies
like ISIS
>a colony revolting
a civil war, you might say
>>
>>287541337
A bit of a reach but Jormundgand was about a vaguely middle eastern orphan child being adopted into a mercenary/arms dealing trade. Man I miss that one
>>
>>287541491
Yup, such an amazing first half
>>
>>287531537
What is this?
