As the anime puts it; "To stand on our own two feet"It ultimately culminates in said priest crashing out on Michael himself and telling him and his host of angels to fuck off for the rest of eternity.Everything involving Maria herself is pure fan service. It's Bernard's journey to discover true faith that has the substance in it, and ironically is covered in a bout 15 minutes of screen time over 12 episodes.
