It's kind of earthy tasting. The finish depends on what it's made from like rice shochu tastes kind of like a dry sake and sweet potato shochu kind of sweet or the weirdest the buckwhest shochu which tastes nutty. The real shochu (~40% ABV) is the best, like a more flavorful vodka.

A few shops sell actual soju which is around 40% ABV. That stuff is more similar to shochu but sweeter. Both Korea and Japan had/have a bunch of laws and tax incentives that made them water down their spirits (even the 40% stuff is still weaker than it was in the 19th century) so sadly the actual stuff is hard to find, especially overseas.

I wonder if her lighter's based on a real model. It looks pretty cool and compact, and I know it's common for mangaka/anime studios to use real world stuff as a reference. The cigarette case is a pretty common design, although most use magnets vice a latch and the diamond deck pattern is definitely an artistic flourish.
