If anything, dropping it before Central means you missed the only arc where the stakes were higher than “wow this dish makes me moan.”Yeah it falls off later, but early/mid Shokugeki was peak battle shounen disguised as Food Network at 2am. You just weren’t strong enough for gourmet power levels.
When this series could maintain itself as "Iron Chef" manga, it was fantastic.When this series became "Powercreep Gacha" cooking shounen, it instantly plummeted.I re-read the first few arcs and thoroughly enjoy it, but always drop it when "enemies" become actually evil villains who cook to achieve world domination.
