Was this the defining moment of 2000s late-night anime?
>>287548176No.
>>287548176Yes.
>>287548176Maybe.
>>287548176Perhaps.
ask again later
>>287548176Can you repeat the question?
Who can stop her?
I fucking farted
>>287548176Yeah, I'll go with that. I've been thinking if there's anything from the 2010's that fits the same role, but I can't think of anything.
Haruhi popularized light novel adaptations and that concert scene is probably the most recognizable and parodied/referenced part of the show besides the ending dance.
>>287548592Madoka.
>>287548666Madoka was 2011 and if we're getting into the 2010s I think SAO takes that spot
>>287548176No, not at all
>>287548726Except Madoka and Haruhi are good while SAO is a pile of shit.
>>287548555Imbeciles who dehumanize her despite how this makes the story 10 times worse just because they value the series solely through the lens of Kyon and Haruhis relationship and see everything else as accessory to that, and thus completely fail to realize how their insistence on calling her a “machine” or “having incomprehensible thought processes” doesnt make the series better by dabbling in cool sci-fi concepts, it utterly butchers it by stripping Nagatos struggle/desire to be normal and not alone/isolated/“just an observer”, and Kyons guilt for failing to notice her growing emotions and desires, and doing everything in his power to help her develop new interests, socialize with other people, and generally learn to live like a normal person instead of just sitting around reading books all day.But hey Im pretty sure these people also dont realize that Haruhi acts the way she does because she wants her life to be meaningful, not just because she finds normal things boring.
>>287548176I watched the series in broadcast order and I didn't really get this scene.
>>287548932Didn't Kyon tell that a mouse works by moving it around but never specified how
>>287548176Indeed
Between Haruhi qnd K-On one copied the artstyle for their second season, so a follower can't be the winner
Fuck ithttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5UKzKZ71pA
>>287548663Successful anime based on light novels was common going back to at least the 1980s. WTF are you smoking?
>>287549628Lurk more retard. Or literally just look at how many light novel adaptations we had pre and post Haruhi
>>287549761Not that Anon, but I looked up the number of TV shows per year based on LNs on AniList and I'm not convinced:2001: 32002: 52003: 52004: 32005: 72006: 162007: 92008: 172009: 182010: 142011: 192012: 252013: 292014: 272015: 26It seems to me that the growth was gradual and the amount was already increasing in 2005 and 2006, and Haruhi was released right as they were becoming more common, but it wasn't exactly the trigger.
This was
I have still never watched this
Why didn't she wear panties in this episode?
>>287548176It's probably the most visually iconic of its era.
>>287548176It's part of Kumikyoku so yeah
>>287548176grim
>>287548917>having incomprehensible thought processesI guess "incomprehensible" is far too much but it's not too crazy to think she thinks differently without taking away from her humanity.
>>287549575Who did it better?>>287551374The thighs/butt game was insane.
>>287552138She could be wearing a thong
Want to get fugged by that rabbit
>>287552517Do women wear thongs even if they aren't planning to have sex or was she hoping for some action with Kyon?
>>287548176TTGL ending
>>287552642
>>287548176>late-night animeHaruhi Suzumiya was never shown on American televisionAnother scary thing is that even 20 years ago plenty of people were watching all of their anime online, just like nowHere's a 20 year old AMV:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1bNtPgmy7I
>>287552797Pretty sure that OP is talking about the Japanese time of airing
>>287552642My girlfriend does
>>287552797>on American televisionAre we excluding Anime Network? It definitely aired on there, it just didn't air on cable.
>>287552642Yes. Thongs hide panty lines better so they can wear tighter pants or leggings without showing everywhere wear their underwear is resting.
>>287548176No, that would be Code Geass
>>287548176It cemented Aya Hirano as one of the best voice actors of that time.
I too love thinking about girls in thongs. It's quite hot that you can't see it but there's lewd underwear underneath.

>>287552406Obviously she thinks differently from a normal human in the sense of being hyper-logical and fixated on details and technical precision, but nothing about this is incomprehensible and in fact there are plenty of humans who think in this exact same manner, myself included. But when I have a guy complaining about how he doesnt want a Yuki PoV Endless Eight chapter because her thinking is just too different from how humans think, and uses her story in Editor in Chief as proof, despite the fact that a) despite being autobiographical, its a fucking poem, she took blatant creative liberties when writing it, and as such its obvious she doesnt think like that, especially when we have seen how she thinks whenever she talks, and b) its not incomprehensible at all, Untitled 1 is obviously about moments right after her birth, her getting the basic rundown from another interface (either Asakura or Emiri Kimidori), her becoming attached to the many wonders of the world, and in the process her becoming no longer a mere interface, which was mentioned by both Koizumi and Asakura, Untitled 2 is about her memory of her existence within the hivemind before her birth as an individual being, her passionless commitment to her mission for years prior to joining the SoS brigade, at which point she encounters these things that arent natural to her, but that she grows to wish she had, which are rather clearly emotions, good and bad, Untitled 3 is pretty clearly about Disappearance, the man on the coffin is obviously Kyon, as him continuing to sit on the coffin is preventing Yuki from returning to where she came from, ie. his promise preventing her from returning to the Data Overminds hivemind just like Asakura did, the only part I dont quite understand is what the recital is meant to be, but the closest thing I can think of is that its meant to be a reference to her failure to fulfill her duties and succumbing to her urges in Disappearance.
>>287548176I don't remember how it happened but I somehow ended up watching this show in some strange order. What felt like a conclusion episode with some big alien attack thing and the two main characters kissing I think was halfway through the show. Then things reset to normal and the last episode was one of the most nothing episodes I've ever seen. Just one long shot of the club on a rainy day and everyone doing nothing. It was a very strange experience. I also didn't know about the endless 8 and pushed through half of it before wondering if I was going insane or had downloaded some kind of fucked up version of the show. Still it was a fun experience and I wish more anime could capture it's charm.
>>287555072you watched the chronological orderThe initial TV release had the episodes mixed up. 11->1->2->7->3->9->8->10->14->4->13->12->5->6So basically the main anime is the first 6 episodes and it had the stuff that happens afterwards sprinkled inbetween as filler episodes. This mixed order is the main reason it became so extremely popular. The DVDs then had it in normal chronological order. That's what you watched.
Haruhi:>Sings a song about how God knows. >Still dosen't realize she's The God.Lmao.
>>287548176haven't watched haruhi in years but what was so special with that scene?
>>287548176Crazy how this IP died all because the VA had sex with her band mates.
>>287548789The first half of the first season was good
>>287557811Not all of them
>>287556734They just did a really good job dubbing the song into english.
No, this is.
Reddit the anime
>>287559273Haruhi is older than Reddit.
>>287548176Maybe briefly. But there were other iconically popular shows with defining moments (Code Geass and Gurren Lagann for example). What's uniquely weird about Haruhi is that Endless Eight came along in just a few years to piss away almost all the goodwill for the series as an entertainment product.
>>287560079The director literally made a public apology over the 8.
Endless Eight is the most courageous anime to ever have been made.
fools rush in where angels fear to tread
>>287560298What was the explanation for it? Were they stalling for time because they didn't have real episodes made? I don't hate it as a concept, I think if they had just done a little more to make the episodes stand out and been 4 or 6 max it could have worked as a neat concept. But just changing the color of a swimsuit wasn't enough.
E8 was based, if it wasn't a thing haruhi wouldn't be remembered, s1 wasn't enough to put it the legendary or infamous status it is now.
>>287560687He specifically didn't want to do this and said it was a bad idea but was outvoted, but it was a deliberate choice trying to capture a feeling.
Endless eight was agonizing to watch. What the fuck were they thinking
>>287560819Embarrassing if true, shows how shallow much of japanese creative ability is. How they could do something like that on purpose and not even put in the effort to make anything interesting change in the episodes?
>>287560925He really didn't have creative freedom is the problem, the suits should have just let him cook.
>>287560925Because the point was to be repetitive it was intentional, it's a literal time loop of course it's going to repeat.
>>287560972It would of worked just fine as the endless 3 like the director wanted.
>>287560972Have you ever watched or read a time loop story before? The whole point is for different things to happen.
>>287561015It's meant to be like your life bro like how you get stuck in routines and how it is hard to break out of them bro
>>287561015Well say that to them, they are the ones who thought repetition = time loop.
>>287561049Cool but if people wanted to watch real life they would just look straight ahead and there it is in all it's boring mundanity. No one is going to pay money to go watch a movie where someone lives their normal life for 2 hours.
its based on Groundhog Day you retads, thats why
>widely regarded as a failure>public apology>anons still defend it
>>287561112It's art though.. Anyway I don't think you get the full effect on E8 watching it on streaming rather then waiting weeks to watch it on broadcast TV. Is it actually peak? I can't say as it frustrated the shit out of me.Except for when Mikura calls kyun each time, that part is great
>>287561208Tbf they still included it and the dissaprance dosen't work without it.So even if it's a failure that was probably forced, it's weirdly still relevant to the plot.
>>287561127You've never seen Groundhog Day.
>>287561312Your right i don't watch, live action lmao
>>287561208>widely regarded as a failureFalse. The BDs sold like hot cakes.
>>287561349Thank you for admitting you were just shitposting instead of trying to drag it out. Try to make less worthless posts in the future, I believe in you anon.
>>287561391It's a popular IP, they expected more out of it.
>>287548176>Was this the defining moment of 2000s late-night anime?NoThat would be Code Geass
>>287560298Yamakan wasn't the director by then, he was fired 3 years before they were working on it.
>>287562506This but the opposite.
>>287562732?https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-06-12/director-yutaka-yamamoto-talks-about-lucky-star-firing2 years then, big whoop
>>287562837There is already the start of the endless 8 in the 2006 anime anon. So again you are simply wrong.
>>287562957English onegai
>>287562982He is the director for the entirety of the 2006 anime that we are talking about, and you are talking about something from 2007. It's right there in the thing you yourself linked.
>>287563055Guess we will also call him the director of the movie since it also started in the 2006 anime so you can say you're right, my bad.
>>287560328It's the only good thing about Haruhi.
>>287560079>as an entertainment product.Anon pls
>>287548176I dunno, is it?
>>2875509452006 was a good year, I'm glad that of all things I started watching anime on the school computers back then.
