When did Nen stop being a power system and become a Harry Potter "characters can do whatever the fuck the author wants/needs" system?

Nen is just an energy source use for powers. It was stricter earlier in the series but just because you have one primary power doesn't mean you can't do other things. Just that your primary power is the one that works the best and will likely be more powerful due to the conditions you've set. That's kind of the issue with using "life energy" type power systems like nen/chakra/ki because there's little reason for them to be limited unless you limit them for everyone. For instance ki in Dragon Ball is largely used for powering up and shooting beams. And you can shoot beams in different ways (or have balls of energy instead of beams) but as far as I remember this is an overall limitation for everyone.HXH on the other hand wants every character to have a unique power. So each character has their unique power, but why would, given the "life energy" source of their powers, they be limited to that one expression of their power? On the other hand, series like Jojo or One Piece (excluding haki, which is more along the lines of the "life energy" powers, but is more similar in limitations to DB's ki than HXH's nen) do have their power systems set up so each person has their own power but the energy source is not shared between people in the same way. You eat a devil fruit, you get that one power. You get a stand and you get that one power. Though stands iirc were kind of explained as stemming from life energy in early part 3, but they never really behaved that way. Hamon in parts 1 and 2 were more along the life energy lines, but again, more similar to DB's ki than HXH's power system.

If I'm going to be frank I don't give a damn if the magical powers in a story are broken. Having a developed system is good for some consistency but who cares if the author wants to bend or break it at times. Magical things used to happen in stories and they were just taken in as that, the people listening to the stories didn't overanalyze how much transactional value that had in the metaphysical world's physics or whatever. Haven't read part 9 yet but I was somewhat glad seeing togashi play around with the Stand power's rules in his later stuff. Part 8 makes every stand feel like a twilight zone episode or some old scifi tale
