What do you think of damsels in distress?
>>
she deserved worse
>>
Anime and manga is the only place where damsels in distress still exist, even fucking princess peach has to be a badass girl boss now, it wouldn’t even bother me if it actually inspired real women to be less useless
>>
>>287558766
Women are strong and never in danger, chud, also violence only effects women because they are weak, chud, have you no heart?
>>
>>287558788
Whats a chud?
>>
>>287558838
Whatever is convenient art the time.
>>
>>287558766
It doesn't because marvel girlbosses are still useless, they're merely elevated by dumbifying everyone around them.
>>
>>287558660
good trope
>>
>>287558766
>>287559021
I think its even better when the girlboss becomes a damsel in distress being needed to be saved by the male protagonist
>>
>>287558660
Is bad when its the same one getting kidnapped over and over.
>>

Heroism is fundamentally a masculine trait. Any attempt to make a female into a hero or leader is the same as merely writing the character as a man with tits.
>>
>>287559217
But didn't tolkien do just that with eowyn?
>>
>>287558660
>What do you think of damsels in distress?
I think that the Pagan tradition should be followed instead of the christcuck one, where the hero manages to rescue the damsel and then breed her, the children resulting from the union will be part of a great lineage that will found a kingdom (If the hero does not founded/conquered/inherit a kingdom, Then in the case of the hero if he has a kingdom then the children will be heirs), keep in mind that the kingdom can not only literally mean a kingdom but any object of great importance such as a company or land of farms or mansion or a powerful mecha or etc
>>
>>287560241
pagans used to dress female clothing and their women were epic girlbosses though
>>
>>287558660
It's a very disadvantaging role that prevents them from doing anything or interacting with the rest of the (good-guy) cast. The longer it lasts, the worse it is for the character.

That's true, sadly, we'll be starved on DiD once anime and manga fully westernized within the century.

Should damsels in distress be used by the distresser?

>>
>>287561140
this. It's tolerable for like 1 arc
>>
>>287563411
Screen time is a finite resource. It's tolerable throughout the entire story unless you don't like the rest of the cast in which case you really have bigger things to worry about.
>>
>>287559168
No, it makes sense if a girl is kidnapped over and over again because that means she's very vulnerable which makes her prone to being a damsel in distress. Unless you mean other girls should also be damsels in distress instead of it only happening to the same girl. Then I agree.
>>
>>287558660
Great.
Everyone loves damsels in distress - at least if they're not obnoxiously stupid.
The girlboss is such a retarded meme.
>>
>>287559168
>>287561140

That and when it's done over and over again. I'm not a fan of girlbosses but retarded damsels are more often than not uninteresting characters. It basically outs most dudes as simps for the most basic women.

A good mix is having a woman that's typically competent and good at what she does without being some kind of wunderkind girlboss be made into a damsel in distress by a truly threatening antagonist ala Casca in Berserk. It makes the stakes that much higher and more meaningful than your average Mario game.

>>287567112
What counts as a basic woman to you?

I like unusual spins on the trope like a girl who goes berserk because of circumstances and MC is forced to hold back while trying to save her.
Plain straight up useless damsel is boring, at least give her a colorful personality.

>Heroism is fundamentally a masculine trait. Any attempt to make a female into a hero or leader is the same as merely writing the character as a man with tits.
Wrong. See Alien and Aliens. You can make female characters heroic, you just need to be practical and not have them beat 100 Arnold Schwarzenegger in arm-wrestling.

>>

Depends on the situation and the damsel in distress, but in general, it's always good if the "distresser" tortures her in some way
>>
>>287558660
I like it. I think all women should permanently be in a state of distress.
>>
i like it when girls are tied up its cute and hot
>>
>>287558766
That's not true. Western romance novels for girls still have damsels-in-distress, though not as many as back in the Twilight era.

What do you mean by competent or colorful personality? It seems you think that means fighting ability but that has nothing to do with being a good female character. The hero fighting the girl who goes berserk? That doesn't give her a colorful personality and misses the appeal of damsel in distress. A heroine doesn't need to fight to be competent or have a colorful personality, and a girl in peril getting rescued is always good whether she's a combatant or not. Pic related.

I do think useless retarded damsels who aren't good for anything are annoying. Buttercup from The Princess Bride is probably my most hated example. She has no personality and is more of a prop than a character. Nothing encapsulates that more than the ROUS scene. Westley is fighting for his life with his bare hands against a vicious monster and all she does is stand there and watch. His sword is right there and for some reason she can't even grab it for him. Eventually she does grab a stick and start whacking it...when it attacks her. Then when Westley wrestles it away, she goes back to standing and watching. Seriously, I'm not given a single reason to care about her or their relationship. Something I've thought about lately is that an example of a good damsel in distress who's (generally) a non-combatant is Gwen Tennyson from the OG Ben 10 series, and she's usually not called or thought of as a damsel in distress.
>>
I really like scenarios where a damsel is unaware she is in a perilous situation, due to being either unconcious or hypnotized... Thats my favourite.

If anyone knows of any good scenes like this, please post 'em!
>>

Girls love the damsel in distress trope just like everyone else. That's why it's so common in shoujo and the like. They love when the dashing hero rescues the heroine, and they want to be the heroine in that moment. Enjoying damsels in distress is an integral part of the human soul. It's always a great moment when a girl gets kidnapped or put in danger and the guy who's her romantic interest saves her and princess carries her. A romantic rescue furthers their relationship.

>What do you mean by competent or colorful personality
I mean having more to her personality than being a bland meek paint on the wall. Saving a featureless brick doesn't feel good in the slightest, at that point you may as well leave your hero alone. The author needs to establish an emotional connection to the character first.
>It seems you think that means fighting ability
ANY ability is a bonus. Any story significance and agency is a bonus, as long as it doesn't become overbearing girlboss shit.

I even mentioned a very tame example since in the end Palma's role in CX is to be a slightly unhinged love interest and emotional anchor for the protagonist, and she's still ten times better at it than a classic damsel in distress purely by the virtue of having a cool background of a zombie apocalypse survivor the one she caused with her own hands, medical skills, a history of being a street rat and a weird, overly emotional "act before thinking" personality.
>>
>>287558660
Love ‘em. Good drama, good emotions, often gets sexy. Peril is my strongest fetish by far.

Nia, despite not being able to fight, is still more of a character than most damsels in distress ever get to be.
Most damsels in distress are non-characters, or wastes of good character designs.

I don't.
