Them adapting the source material by being essentially a new playthrough where every horrible decision gets amplified wasn't a bad idea, killing Makoto before he learned to man up to his mistakes felt like a cheap way out.

It's like a 7/10, mediocre writing but a good portrayal of letting bad decisions go on unaddressed until it gets fucked. Some shit was just plain insane (Why is Taisuke listed in the material as being unaware of the raping concept?).

But this is ultimately the perfect gatekeeping anime for zoomers in my opinion.
Like always recommend it whenever someone wants to try anime as a whole.
