After all these years I think its safe to say we won't be getting a follow up to Outlaw Star.I kinda liked it
>>287590777coming back this summer for more wacky adventures
>>287590777Followup? You mean Angel Links? It was shit.
>>287591438That really doesn't countI mean Gene Starwind and his pals going on space adventures
>>287590777The anime was fine but the characters don't have much development and really no reason for any of the female characters to hang out with Gene Starwind (I guess Melfina really has no where else to go)
>>287590777>assassin lady fights some other assassin that has her exact face >never seen again and no real explanation Kind of a weird thing to bring up in the last episode . They never did much with sazuka (??) anyways
The story concluded nicely, and 26 episodes was enough to fully enjoy all the elements that made the show great. How do fellow uncs handle rewatching old shows you first saw 20+ years ago? At that point the nostalgia morphs into a crushing existential bad trip.My friend from middle school who let me borrow his Outlaw Star box set committed suicide a few years ago. We hadn't been in regular contact for some time, just Facebook, but I'm not sure I could handle watching it again.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoxDY5G4LW8Fuck, I really should have looked that up... :(
>>287592983Thats a bummer man. I remember Outlaw Star being on Cartoon Network back in the day but I never watched it until recently. Its not bad but I can kind of see why it wasn't a massive hit like similar space anime around the time.
>>287591735You mean joss whedons Firefly?
>>287590777>Aisha sells out the Outlaw Star crew by telling her military where she was going all the time>Gene gets kind of mad for a second but then it never comes up again and she rejoins the crew anyways
>>287593469It was competing against Cowboy Bebop during the time of Toonami, so it's no surprise. Although there's definitely a strong fanbase out there. Probably more so than in Japan. It's always possible to watch Toonami in its original state, with the trailers, Peter Cullen's voice and original ads:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Py4gOq2auQ
>>287590777sword of wind never ever...
>>287593908>Outlaw Star follow up>the outlaw star isn't in it
Childhood is wanting Aisha as your waifu.Adulthood is wanting Suzuka as your wife and Melfina as your daughter.
>>287593501Funny you mention that.
>>287594335We were very different children.
>>287590777Aisha Clanclan sexo
>>287597382
>>287594358I have never cared for Firefly and find Nathan Fillion to be MASSIVELY overhyped for nothing
>>287590777There was a light novel released that sadly never got an official english translation. It was called "El Dorado In The Clouds".
>>287597502>>287597400>>287597382Made for Big Jim Cock
>>287597581Maybe in ten years when he's an adult. If we're going by the logic of aliens having longer lifespans than humans.
>>287597400>>287597502
>>287597680Would
>>287599826Same
>>287590777Better this than ruining something special like so many times
>>287592983Yeah, it can be a little depressing at times. Notice how almost nothing coming out today is considered a potential classic, or is even remembered two years later? Outlaw Star's animation was kind of shit though, Suzaka looked like a fucking manfaced giraffe at times.>UncDon't use that shitty forced meme word.
>>287593501>>287594358Outlaw star came out 1 year before firefly did SOOO NOPE>>287592983Don't use that unc crap on here, sorry about your friend, at the end of the day just take the anime for what it is and try no tot compare it to the westernized appeasement trend japan has now done.
>>287594358I assume Joss won't be involved in this? I never liked the guy but doing his show without him is kind of stupid
>>287590777>set up the McDougal Bros as killing Gene's dad>He kills them>....actually they are fineWeird way to end the show...They must have really planned on doing more so they didn't off the secondary villains. Its not even ever made totally clear that they were the killers (though there isn't any reason to not to think so)
>>287594673god damn her ep is still so sad!
>>287597382>>287597400>>287597502Aisha was weird>Comedy character who acts like a moron and her scenes are never serious>Except a couple of times where she's the most dangerous of the crew and straight up slaughters some of the villains>Also her people are the most dangerous killers in the galaxy, but used only as jokes or fanservice for the most part
>>287604342Her joining the crew really didn’t even make that much sense
>>287601520>Notice how almost nothing coming out today is considered a potential classic, or is even remembered two years later? That has less to do with the quality of individual shows, and more the fact that anime is no longer easily subject to monoculture. There are SO MANY shows that come out every season that most of them get forgotten about immediately because there is no time to breathe before the next 37 shows start airing next week, and the people who watched this niche show always remain a small minority. There's not enough time or energy for shows to really spread and grow more popular later: if they didn't blow up as they were airing, they never will. Compare that to the pre-streaming days, where anime that made its way to the western world was this rare, precious thing. Even not especially good shows would get passed around and become part of the common culture, with the 'canon' of verified good shit becoming must watch material that everyone saw as a rite of passage. But that was only possible because of the scarcity of it, we had YEARS for things like Cowboy Bebop to spread and become part of the canon, it wasn't pushed off the board immediately.Even so we do still get some genuine modern classics. Anyone who thinks that Frieren hasn't established itself as a landmark anime is kidding themselves, for example. But that the level of popularity explosion you basically need to have to make a dent these days.
