The only bad part was the shonen shit in the middle with the village and demons. Not sure how someone could watch season 1 and like it then think 2 was bad. It's in the same strides.

Blame the manga. The manga has always been mid, massively elevated by the adaptation, and you simply expect too much from it. The exam arc in the first season should have been a clear sign that it wasn't that special or far from other shonen. It's also slow as fuck to release with hiatus.
There might be some kino when it comes back.

I finished Frieren's second season yesterday, and while I enjoyed it as a whole, it left me a little disappointed because it felt more like a bridge between arcs rather than a self-contained season. It was a scattered collection of mini-stories that didn't particularly explore new ground in terms of themes, but simply reinforced the ones present in the first season (how our actions can leave a positive impact on future generations; to live by example; the journey as a metaphor for life; and family). Again, not a bad season, but I was expecting a lot more from this series.
