>Game is out for a whole-ass year.>Has rare world bosses people know story content is locked behind.>entire guilds exist to fight specific world bosses.>no one knew this boss was incorporeal.
people irl are still discovering shit from 10+ year old videogames, this doesn't sound too weird
>>287629992"What type of monster is the popular secret boss" doesn't seem like a secret a game can keep very long.Every player that isn't named Sunraku might just be dumb as fuck.

Counterpoint: Absolute Virtue
>>287633060Was his secret weakness ever discovered or did it just get nerfed to hell and back over the years and level cap increases?
>>287630209>Every player that isn't named Sunraku might just be dumb as fuck.I mean, most of humanity is pretty dumb so it checks out.
>>287634405SE eventually gave a hint where you needed to quickly kill the adds of one of the NMs needed to summon AV, and then use elemental spells corresponding to the day of the week but even then it was basically impossible with lag and I think only one LS ended up doing it "properly" after like 3 years of it being out.
>>287633060>>287634405>>287634905The hint you're talking about is the video of them locking out AV's 2-hour abilities by using your 2-hour within a few second window of AV using it - But given the text chat rolling and lag between NA and where the servers were located, NA players were at a massive disadvantage. It wasn't impossible, but it might as well have been especially if your PC or internet lagged at a critical moment.Even given the limitations on NA, it's not like the JPs were particularly successful at downing him either, however.Didn't stop people from abusing glitches where they could lmao, SE would stomp the ever living fuck out of anyone caught "cheating" to kill AV. The idea of killing him really was mythicalI played on a private server like 6 years ago where we often (like once a month) killed AV, but the average level of gear you would have and the ease of leveling jobs meant that you could roll in with a fleet of black mages and magic burst the fuck out of him where the entire squad was running high quality gear, or using much higher quality consumables than what should have been available at the time. It also massively helped that the server was hosted in NA on the east coast- and even then we still had some problems with time-lag for locking out his abilities.Ironically, as unbeatable as Absolute Virtue was, there was another boss in that game that actually claimed a life- Pandaemonium Warden. There was a linkshell (guild) who fought him for, iirc over 20 hours straight and someone actually died of exhaustion IRL because of it.
>>287633060>>287634405That's fucking wild, lol. But that's still a long way off from not even knowing how any of it's attacks work.
>>287636658The need to lock it's ability to use the 2-hour abilities was crucial, or else you're basically playing against something with access to cheat engine
>>287636658Even when people starting killing AV "legit" the earlier methods they used like krakeneater dark knight or stacking modus veritas got nerfed into the dirt immediately afterwards. The thing about AV is it had access to all super moves from every job that was in the game when it released, and it could use them whenever it wanted and in bullshit ways players couldn't (like summoning a bunch of pets and then using the ninja suicide bomb move, only the pets would all explode with it and they didn't take self-damage from it). PW was more of an issue of having to kill all of the mega bosses of that expansion during the fight and it would use 8 astral flows (summoner super ability players could only use every 2 hours) simultaneously multiple times during the fight.
