Why didn't Ryuk introduce this option to Light if he wanted more fun? The sheer amount of chaos Light could have wrought with this is honestly astounding, and it would mean it would be significantly easier for him to pull the heat off of himself. It would also lead to much more gruesome deaths to prevent the "Heart attack" idea from sticking as a way to identify Kira because preventing people from coming back to life would be easy. He could also very easily entrust Misa or Mikami with an eraser and die in front of L in such a way that he could have his body not be found in time before he escapes and then just resurrect to keep doing the Kira thing from the shadows.

You have to assume "cremation" means the body being destroyed, so any form of bodily harm that would kill you like decapitation should theoretically prevent it from working, or something like your organs rupturing/blood loss from a suicide would also prevent you from resurrecting.The kid also had his friend kill him with a heart attack to prove the eraser worked to the detectives and he seems to have confirmed there is something after death since Ryuk asks the kid how he enjoyed it. Makes me wonder if Ryuk was lying to Light the whole time and he is being eternally tortured for using it whereas the kid who sold the Death Note just died like normal.
