Is this top-tier Sakuga and psychological anime, or just bullshit?
>>287651071Looks like a high budget 90s anime so it's probably just a 3 episode OVA or something. Just watch it and find out
>>287651071Gasaraki is a good show. Also a somewhat prophetic show, since it predicted both the Iraq war and the migrant crisis back in the 90s. That said, go into it be because you like hardnosed political elements and conspiracies and weird Japanese magic rituals. Do not go into the show expecting a super engaging drama around the main character. While all the elements are there, the show really fumbles the bag in terms of making you care about Yushiro or the rest of the ensemble cast. The main character is just too stoic through all the Bourne esque revelations about his life. The Bourne films are honestly not a bad comparison in tone and feel. It's very much a serious political thriller type show. I've also called it the most right wing anime ever made, because the show looks with grudging approval towards one character's desire for a coup d'etat of the Japanese government. The show covers a wide range of topics, and there's really no other show like it. So it comes highly reccomended, with the caveat that you may find yourself bored, and that's not an unreasonable response.
>anime is prophetic because it showed something known for decadesNot even worthy of a (You).
>>287652760>it predictedJews were always pretty open about their plans for the middle east.
>>287652807Yes, obviously Camp of the Saints goes back to the 70s, and expecting a 2nd war against Sadaam wasn't exactly rocket science. But how many Japanese animu or other pop media were touching on such topics? Basically zilch.
How does it compare to Patlabor?
>>287651071What's with those terrible subs?
>>287651071This video is grossly overselling it.>high quality animationCertainly not showing the worst scene, and the short video already contain almost all mech scenes of the anime.>not being heroicThis is the show that brag about their mecha gunning down jet in the most contrived battle possible.Even more contrived than the clusterfuck needed to have small mech win again small tanks....when nowadays both would be heroically destroyed by a $1000 microdrone.>RealismThe mecha is unnecessarily humanoid, has plain magical features for the purpose of looking cool, The urban combat bit would only be ok if they fought infantry because a tank would never let itself be surrounded like that, and getting atop a building would be the best way to be one-shot by tanks outside the city. While severely limiting your own ability to escape, you are basically a sitting duck on a pedestal. They also use the silliest weapons when trying to look extra cool. And I am the kind to defend real mech warfare as possible. It's just that it will not look like close-range operator.More like - modular vehicle hiding behind obstacles that are normally not safe to maneuver for other type of vehicle,- AI-computer doing 99% of the piloting and only keeping a pilot to give order in case of jamming/hacking,- only deserving a place on the battlefield if able to deploy a larger variety of weapon for flexibility in hard to reach place,- only survivable with AI-turret shooting down drones, missiles, and maybe indirect artillery shells- in a far future where new technology changed doctrine so much everyone is desperate just to have the right weapon at the right place.Definitely not tacticool fantasy
it's geopolitical/mystic japan storyline with two rei clones as the MCs.
>>287653737also most buildings would realistically collapse if a mech tried to scale it like that
>>287653686Beside both having mecha, there's nothing to compare.Gazaraki is trying to be deep psycho-political military, but is trying too hard for "realism" that it cannot possibly have since the plot is built on mysticism and (not lying) aliens. It's not trying to be funny.Patlabor is comedy gold featuring cops using mecha to stop civilian mecha or for problem that can use such machines, which isn't a bad try to have brawling mecha. The setting is not actually cyberpunk enough to justify (sleek) mecha being that common, but you'll take what you can get.
>>287651071it's NGE with right-wing anti-immigration bs in itthere's a chud nerv who goes, "too many chinese, billions must die", and does a successful coup against the japanese governemnt. there is also lengthy worldbuilding about japanese rice prices or something
>>287654160What's the problem with any of that story?
>>287653926To be fair, it could certainly climb a lot of building, they can easily handle an extra dozen tons, just not the sudden forces of the kicking and jumping. Also most skycrappers nowadays are externally pure glass. All mecha show love their STOMPING HARD TO BREAK THE GROUND WITH SMOKE when Efficient Running would have all movements coordinated in the way of a real human runner, minimizing impact.
>>287654207All of you guys do nothing but JAQ off when people aren't relentlessly circlejerking inaccurate racist junk like Angel Cop.
>>287653686Patlabor is not a bad comparison, the ensemble cast aspect was definitely inspired by it. One half of the story is devoted to the mecha crew, the other to main pilot Gowa Yushiro and his hidden family backstory. For context, the director here is Ryosuke Takahashi of VOTOMS. There's similar levels of conspiracies being uncovered as in the Patlabor films, but it's a lot more of Yushiro on his own rather than the lovable team working together and solving things. This overly long video gives a good analysis/feel of the show, even if I think the guy is too uptight about the character Nishida.https://youtu.be/StXDzHhglgM>>287653721Some shitty AI produced short off of YouTube.
>>287654207It's not actually fun to watch
>>287654392So it's boring economics and not fun economics like [C]?
>>287654160>>287654271People would be less likely to jump over you and give hyperbolic takes, if you were able to accurately and not hyperbolically describe the character motivations.
>>287654453no exaggeration nor hyperbole, the character motivation is that he wants to fuck his 1000+ year old waifu and aid a coup to purge minorities from his countryforgive me (or dont), but a lot of right-wing media isn't nuanced nor insightful. all of them eyerollingly have the same message and it is a waste of time to read or watch when you can just see RW twitter once>>287654425Not really done well.
>>287655787Are you talking about Yushiro? Nishida's motivation is to reform Japan, give it back a spirtual/warrior ethos, make it less commerce focused etc. etc. He has no connection to the 1000 years ago flashback. Kazukiyo Gowa is just updated Gihren Zabi, he wants power, views humans as puppets, has a god complex. Willing to tag along with Nishida as long as it furthers his goals. He doesn't care about any girl from the past, he wants power. Also, the show shows the migrant inflows as a problem(as they have been in Europe, you'd have to be delusional/fanatical to not acknowledge they've caused problems), but the show is sympathetic to them as well. Some of them rescue Yushiro during one of the arcs. The show isn't trying to wildly condemn any group of people. It's trying to acknowledge what it sees as real problems and present possible solutions. I can't help it if your political bigotry gets in the way of seeing that.
