The main issue with the series is that the backstory for the MC's trauma, as presented to us so far, is pretty weak. And since her whole personality is a consequence of it, it's impossible not to see this whole "drama" as childish and forced. You would think, given her severe case of social anxiety disorder, that she was systematically abused or something, but we see is not even on the same level as Carrie. I suppose this is a problem with the genre and demographic. You can't have a romance story with comedic elements in a comic aimed at teens while also portraying abuse in a serious, grounded manner, so the author went with this nonsensical route.
