Episode's out, ready for more story branches
GUYS Is it yuri?
>>287654904not really
Didn't watch last week's episode on time to post, but I really loved how it intertwined all these characters with little to no relation to each other around the school.
This anime is kinda miserable to watch.
How can such a pretty show be so boring?
Someone sell me on this as somebody that usually likes performance arts anime but already has enough on his plate this season.
>>287654904I would say it's anti yuri if anything which is strange coming from Aoi Hana author, it enforces the bad yuri endings in typical old school Class S bullshit.
I still don't get what it's about
DAMN
>>287656404It's not a performance arts anime, but human drama anime. There've been, like, one song so far aside from ED.
>>287655196Agree hard on that. Will there be any fun or lighthearted stories at all?
>>287654904What's important is that it looks and feels like yuri.
I understand everything, I like this show
The weakest episode so far. Kinda went nowhere, none of the stories were particularly interesting or emotional. And I hope we finally go back to the present now, 2 episodes of flashbacks from long ago should be more than enough.
>>287655196>This anime is kinda miserable to watch.I think is fun
>>287654904It's Class S
>>287658577Really? For me it was kino and I rarely say that about modern anime
>>287656443Takako Shimura read many Class S titles when she was a teen girl so it's about nostalgia. Moe otakus took over the Class S genre and transformed it into CGDCT so there's probably a market for nostalgic women that hate moeshit like most women do
This has AOTS potential. It gets a little confusing with all the different characters and the chronology of everything, but the way the perspective jumps around to piece together these multigenerational stories has made every episode really engaging so far. Plus the art is really nice and the music isn't bad either.
>>287654539The new episode of highbrow yuri.
This one is from last week, but some of the lines from this show are brutal
>>287655196It's tame.
What a waste of a beautiful artstyle.
>>287654904It's an all girl schoolThis means there will constantly be girls telling eachother they love eachother, but it's up to your interpretation to decide if they mean yuri love or friendship love. If you're metally ill, you'll call it "yuribait"If you're normal, you'll understand that it doesn't really matter
>>287656404Evil women yuri.
>>287658577Dumb zoomer, go watch some shonenslop, it's more up your speed
>>287662062another filtered low IQ slop enjoyer
>>287660739This sounds like /v/tardism but I'll reply anyway because other people might need the history lesson, Class S didn't "transform" into anything, it got censored by the japanese government during the war
This show is too high IQ for nu-/a/
Peak ass episode. AotS. This is high brow shit
>>287655196It's human drama.
>>287655196Itʼs awa-awa.
>>287658577Not everything needs to be emotional. This isn’t your typical Jukki Hanada slop like Yorimoi show that forces emotional scenes just so MALfag and Reddit can rate it highly. You’re meant to get a heavier reaction from the lives of these three generations of characters. The show is trying to gauge a different kind of feeling and emotion, not the usual tearjerker type.
I hope they don't skip the cult girl's backstory.
bitches, man - the anime
So the grandma's issue was that she's shallow and couldn't look past looks even for her loved ones?
>>287658577Weakest? I thought last week was amazing and this episode managed to top it off. The way it protrayed the relationship between the three generations was masterful. It's rare that an anime can introduce three characters and fully characterize them and their lives this effectively in so little time. I cried like a bitch again.
>>287664803More like she puts beauty on a pedestal. She even says, “Why are the lives of beautiful people always so fleeting?” She’s not as shallow as she’s made out to be. She chose her “boring” husband and even puts him above her own daughter, which suggests she sees a kind of beauty in his plainness. Sadly, she can’t extend that same view to her daughter and granddaughter.
>>287665041Amazing direction. This show is like if Orb was good.
>>287665748But she thought he was physically attractive too, which is also why she was surprised when Ruriko wasn't as attractive as them.
Would you an untouched mega hag?
>>287665762Same director of CCS.
>>287664785I love how unhinged female characters are when they're not targeted to incels
>>287660739Moeshit didn't come from Class S, retard. Class S just died, because it basically appeals to no one anymore.
>>287667730There are nostalgic adult women that miss the genre considering Awajima got an anime. Maybe not as many and not as well organized as moefags but they exist. But I admit most women want to see Chad raping a virginal schoolgirl so that's what female-aimed titles provide
This was definitely my favorite episode so far. I was getting pretty misty-eyed by the end. It's amazing how by the end of the episode it feels like we know Ruriko and Natsuko intimately despite only being introduced to them 22 minutes prior. That depth of characterization in such a short time reminds me of A Portrait of Shunkin.
>>287663388You're the one who decided that emotional = tearjerker. I'd say the strongest point of the episode should've been Katsurako telling her kusobaba to fucking die, but it failed to hit because by then we hadn't seen her mother's story yet. I understand why they showed it in this order, but because of that the moment kinda lost its potential.>>287665041I did like the previous episode as well, but I thought the only one who actually got decent characterization in this one was Katsurako's mother. The grandma was just a symbol of "I only care about beautiful people" idea, and the parallel with Katsurako's disdain for Emi just didn't work for me.
>>287667730It didn't died off naturally, it died because Japan thought Class S was getting in the way of their total war efforts, so they forced the magazines that were producing it to change their content completely. Not to say that Class S (as we know it) would still be relevant today if that didn't happen, the audience for it back then was teenage girls who could actually relate to all-girls schools and admired the aesthetic of it.
Class S died caused the "nobility, image" of that has been used as a subject device for cheating, mostly in fiction and maybe a sort of "justification" in real life. I mean the very same author of this work, has literary a series about that.
>>287668742I don't think you've looked into this
>>287668044I forgive her
Wew I thought Kirio-kun and Hidarikiki no Eren had great episodes this week but this one blew them out of the water. I didn't think anything would be able to compete with Ikoku Nikki for AOTY but now I'm not so sure.
>>287671087If it continues with this sort of anthology chain of emotional highlights I will happily call it AOTY so far. I prefer Ikoku Nikki for personal reasons, but if I'm honest, it was a bit insistent. The constant visual and literary metaphor really got in the way and felt forced. For storytelling I prefer the shifting perspectives and this show really nails it.
>>287671288>If it continues with this sort of anthology chainJudging by the title it will
Japan is loving Awajima, plebs here just get filtered. Oddly the inverse happens with NGO but both sides seem to like Nippon Sangoku.
Best show this season unironically
>>287671781>we're getting a hundred episodesHell yeah.
>>287672567There's like two or three stories per episode so it's more like 30-50
>>287671087I like Awajima a lot more. Ikoku Nikki’s dialogue is so sparse that it ends up saying very little for its runtime. Awajima, by comparison, feels much more optimized. Its dialogue and scenarios make better use of the time they have.
>>287671982You'd think highbrowfags would feast on this show
>>287671982Nippon Sangoku is much easier to digest. Awajima requires you to pay attention.
I will be watching the episode today
>>287663289If i want drama i'll live my life
>>287676107What did you think
>>287680303I haven't yetI'm working out, then will shower
>>287680303I watched itLiked it. But am still a touch confused on who is whoBasically>current hag teacher is the one that caused her classmate last episode to quit the school>her getting SPITTED on caused her to realize that she was a shitty person and made her want to change>everyone in this episode is directly related to her, ruriko being her mom, who she has a good relationship with, her grandma, who was a cunt>that grandma didn't love her own daughter because womanmoment, and surprise surprise, also hated her own mom (current hag teacher's great grandma)>the men are not in focus much, but both fathers seem to have been good fathers, atleast for as long as they livedI think I got all that right. It's hard to keep track of so many names so quickly, but I DO like that this is sort of an anthology series. I think it works. The previous episode was quite good how it all came together and this episode, while really sad overall, had a very impactful final line>she did teach me how to loveFucking brutalRurichan deserved better brosBut also when do they start performing and stuff? They just talk about it a lot. Is the show going to focus in on the current day cast and start with some performance arts? Or is it just gonna be women yapping all day?I think the single problem with this storytelling approach is that it doesn't leave much for actual discussion despite it seeming to want that. For a show that takes itself seriously with the drama, it's hard to really have much to say when we pingpong from people so constantly. I know that I just spent the first half of my post praising the show for doing that, and I still do think it's good, but the show feels, idk how to put it, very "light" and "airy" despite the darker subject matter it's trying to cover. I mean a woman growing up and slowly realizing she's not loved by her mother, only to still love her regardless, is some heavy shit man. It could be an entire drama in and of itself. I guess that's the point
>>287660932>the crane ruriko makes as a child is only able to fly after her mom passed awayStrong visuals man
>>287683082You're right that it could be an entire drama in and of itself. The episode felt like watching a whole movie and a life in just 23 minutes, which I feel is some of the highest praise I could give it.
>>287683187I've liked each episode so far and am excited for more. I would like to see it narrow down just a bit, maybe focus on the main girl for an epiosde or two straight out before delving into other characters. At this point I don't even remember her name. I want to learn more about the girl with the beautiful opera voice who was afraid of having to bathe with others. She's what hooked me in originally
>>287672418One of the best I've seen in recent years.
>>287684472I'm sure we'll come back to them at some point. I'm not sure who'll be starring next episode since this one ended without any clues unlike last one for Ibuki Katsurako.
>*spits on your face*Your response, anon?
>>287685537*unzips dick*
Time traveling so I can get Katsurako pregnant no less than five times.
>>287686992This if I had no semblance of taste
>>287684472It's an anthology, there is no main girl
>>287686992You could fix her, anon
Anyone got a webm of the last part of the episode, with child Ruriko portrayed on the sky?
Does she deserve love by now?
