I recently found the official artbook! If anyone wants to see any particular characters or pages, let me know. Otherwise I'll just post my faves. Also, there's a fairly lengthy full-color manga in the back of it that's all about the Planetary Gears, and I'm looking to get it translated and edited, so recommendations in that regard would be appreciated!

>>287695975>>287695974I mean personally I thought it was pretty good, had fun characters, and had unusually strong themes and neat references, but it just seems to lack something essential. Maybe they needed another cour to flesh out the Gears, or maybe they could have cut the Salty Dog stuff in favor of the same.

>>287695515Ah yes. The anime where all the interesting story was in supplementary materials. For a 50 episode show there was certainly plenty of room to fit all that story in in they bothered. As it were it was a story that was watered down to last way too long with not enough gluing it together. They should have dedicated 15 minutes every episode on the villains.
>>287696131
>>287696008>Maybe they needed another cour to flesh out the GearsThey fleshed them out already. Every GEAR got a short story explaining how they lived before the story started, and it was all on the Newtype magazine. If those things were in the actual anime itself it would have been worth watching.
>>287696147>>287696137While I don't really disagree, you're misremembering. it was 25 episodes, not 50. I wish we'd gotten 50 so the characters could have been more fleshed out, though.
>>287696137edit. It was 25 episodes. The argument is the same; way too long for the script.
>>287696172>>287696165Ah, I see. I wonder if the stories in the back of this book are reprints, then.

I've seen this show called Star Driver with less gay subtext, is that accurate? Worth a watch?
>>287696216
>>287696165Most of them still got plenty of backstory in the anime. The wrestler guy had a two parter. The one notable exception was the biker chick who got almost nothing.
>>287696172Even the picture you posted proved that the GEARs were just far more interesting as characters. Some of them even wanted to live as people if it were possible. I have no idea why all their backstories were on the cutting room floor.
>>287696233>>287696232Still haven't watched Star Driver yet, so couldn't say. This show had a lot of potential and I feel it could have been much better, but it's a fun time-waster if nothing else.>>287696234I mean, Ai also got almost nothing in terms of backstory, although she did also get plenty of screentime after awakening.

>>287696314>>287696316Completely valid
>>287696232Star Driver is a more cheeky/less serious Utena with robots. Captain Earth leans more into a typical mecha anime structure even if there are still a lot of similiarities.

i watched it when it was airing i forgot how many sexo characters this anime had
This show had all of the ingredients to be great, but they dropped the ball in the ending. You can't spend the majority of the show focusing on a cast of villains and then sideline them this hard for the final act with no payoff or resolution.Star Driver did this better, because while the Glittering Crux were being used by Head and he calls them out for being chunni retards he's been manipulating the whole time, the Crux side with Takuto in the finale as a result of this, saving his life and going out in a blaze of glory trying (and failing) to stop Samehk, and even when they are defeated they are at least still present and commenting on the rest of the battle. Meanwhile, the Kiltgang just get blindsided by Puck Ex Machina and are totally impotent do anything but be forced to self destruct without a fight with no meaningful contribution to anything, and then they are out of the show and no longer a part of any of the events that follow. They are just booted from the story unceremoniously due to a plan of Puck's that wasn't really set up as well as it needed to be to justify this level of rugpull.

>>287696789are these short manga stories suppose to be epilogues for them that didn't appear at the end of the final episode? If so, can someone translate or scanlate them?
