Understanding the "Shadow" Archetype: The Case of Loid Forger
In storytelling, a Shadow Archetype (or "Evil Version") isn't just a twin or a bad guy—it is a dark mirror of the hero. It represents what the hero could have become if they took a different path or gave in to their worst impulses.

To understand a Shadow version of Loid, you just look at his best traits and flip them:

The Hero (Loid): Uses lies and manipulation to create a world where "children don't have to cry." He is a spy for the sake of peace.

The Shadow: Uses those same skills for power or out of pure cynicism. He believes the world is beyond saving, so he treats people like disposable chess pieces rather than human beings.

A "Shadow Loid" would look like this:

Zero Empathy: While Loid secretly cares for Anya and Yor, his Shadow version would feel absolutely nothing. To him, a "family" is just a tool to be used and then destroyed once the mission is over.

Order Over Peace: Loid wants people to be happy. A Shadow version wants people to be controlled. He would use his genius to puppet governments because he doesn't trust anyone to have free will.

The Hollow Man: Loid struggles to remember his "real" self because he's a spy. The Shadow version has deleted his real self entirely. He is a ghost with no heart, only a mission.

In short: The Shadow archetype is a warning. It shows the audience that the hero’s greatest strengths (like Loid’s ability to lie and stay calm) could be incredibly dangerous if they weren't guided by a good heart.
