Alright, I finished season 1 of Aikatsu Stars. Overall it has been great so far, it's definitely still Aikatsu while also having its own separate identity from the OG. Likewise, Yume's been a great protagonist so far, and the cast in general has been very entertaining to watch. That said, my biggest problem is the way Yume and Rola's relationship kinda fizzles into nothingness in the second half. Like they're supposed to be best friend rivals, but it felt like they had very little meaningful interaction or emotional engagement with each other past episode 30 or so, to the point where Ako felt both more like a best friend and more like a rival to Yume. Also Koharu in general deserved better.

Just finished watching Aikatsu! season 3.I was surprised to see Akari usurp the main character role - I anticipated that she'd be a more prominent character (the setup at the end of S2 was obvious enough), but not to this extent.All things considered, it was a graceful transfer of main character status. At first, I was worried that they'd just be retracing the same story threads again (with the ponpon crepe episode being the 3rd of its kind), but my worries were pretty much completely dispelled by the time Akari become a weather caster.Overall, the season did a great job of weaving all characters in and out of the story, and I like this way of expanding the cast more than insisting that every character be prominently featured in every episode.There are a few exceptions: the almost complete lack of Dream Academy characters felt like a pretty drastic course correction. Maybe better than to sunken cost fallacy further into them, but I feel sorry for them. And Yuu-chan pretty much got deleted. She was Akari's room mate for like half a season, she deserved better. Not only did she barely appear, but whenever she did a student exchange, the student she swapped with (Miyabi and Kokone) got a huge farewell party, but they didn't even bother showing Yuu returning on screen. It's like Akari completely forgot about her. I guess this is the harsh reality of the Aikatsu! world: you pass auditions or you pass into obscurity.I guess the next season will focus on Akari trying to become the next Star Light Queen? Seeing as Luminas already beat Tristar and PowaPowa-Puririn, it seems pretty attainable. What really interests me is how if she'll be able to beat Ichigo. And if Ichigo will finally be able to form a Sun+Moon duo with Mizuki, which seemed like it was being set up way back in season 1?I also wonder what the setup will be for the S5. None of the Kouhai characters (Madoka and Rin) were super interesting to me, and the series somehow picks up a "Stars!" subtitle?

Rin admiring Johnny was a nice way to explore his past. I wish they kept up her Johnny admiration longer; Rin is kind of bland as she is, so it could have introduced some fun dynamics to the group. Maybe in S4?Her focus episodes were still pretty good.
This episode explains so much about Aikatsu! fashion. You can make any clown suit look good if you have Idol charisma.(This is not a statement about game mechanics, I have no idea how the game works.)
