The manga's topaz story arc was originally four chapters long: cave, hot springs deposit, micrometeorite, topaz. The anime turned the middle two chapters into the final episode and removed all mention of looking for topaz, so the cave and topaz would end up becoming the first episode of S2. But in the anime, Aoi already knows Ruri collects minerals and Ruri already took Seto to the quartz site. In a hypothetical anime S2, Seto would come back from the topaz episode and show Aoi the big topaz crystal she collected, and Aoi could ask them to show her the quartz site because she's climbed that mountain before and she didn't know there's quartz off the trail to the summit. You'll notice that the ending montage of the anime's final episode is careful not to include Aoi with the group when Ruri and Nagi show the quartz site to Seto and Imari.
