But the big brand-name sodas requiring massive logistics chains to create very specific flavor extracts in very specific combinations, it simply wouldn't exist anymore.At best, if the right people survived, and somehow the company remained solvent in an unprecedented economic mega-depression, maybe they could get the soda factories up and running again, but with new recipes, not the ones we'd recognize today. They'd have no choice. Maybe more of the natural ingredients could find adequate artificial substitutes, but it would be a poor imitation. So even if the brand survived, somehow, against all odds, it wouldn't actually be Dr Pepper.

I would think that alcohol production would still be a major priority even in those days, just because of high demand from people coping with the horror of their new existence, and its usefulness in sterilization. It's just not comparable to Dr Pepper which requires ingredients from all sorts of different climates in different parts of the world and complicated extraction processes.
Shinji's most dramatic scenes are when he's suddenly forced into the eva without time to change into the plugsuit.
