I hate the TTGL movies. They have no reason to exist.

Fetish material!? In a Gainax production!?
It's more likely than you think!

>>287727724
The first one is pretty pointless but the final battle is so much better in the second one that it justifies that movie’s existence.
>>
>>287727769
I wish we had more of it today.

Anyone else find it funny that TTGL turns into a political thriller for about 4 episodes then immediately goes back to being an action mecha. I love those kinds of stories and Rossiu's coup and power grab is unironically the part of the story I found most entertaining. I think they made him unnecessarily evil, though. He could've just deposed Simon without sentencing him to death. The show trial he holds with himself as the judge felt like something straight out of Animal Farm.
>>
>>287728000
>so much better
Not really. The fistfight was good, though I could live without it. The closing line about believing in humanity is an undeniable improvement. My favorite addition was the Giga Drill Break. That was definitely missing from the original fight. However, that creates a situation where the mechs being destroyed one by one is much less epic than in the original. The part where every character has their own mech is a nothingburger and the fight gets a little cheesy at times. STTGL is just a final wank to kamina because he's the most popular character by far.
>>
>>287728062
it's has political themes all around, like in part one the leader of Rossiu's tribe used a religion he didn't believe in to seize power and maintain some kind of order. The intention probably was for it to be a parallel for how Rossiu acts in part 2, the old man sacrificed Gimmy and Darry and Rossiu sacrifices Simon

The final battle for the fate of universe being a fist fight with not background music is TOP TIER KINO.
Also Yoko and Nia tits.
>>
>>287727724
I'd have liked to find out if the Spiral Nemesis consumed the universe. It's never confirmed, so for all we know the Anti Spiral were the good guys and humanity were the villains whose actions ultimately lead to he destruction of the universe.
>>
>>287728229
I disagree the fist fight is a little too much it is cool but having the Gurren deliver the death blow makes sense narratively.

Simon opened the heavens for himself with the Gurren in Episode 1 and in Epsiode 26 he opens the heavens with it one more time for the Universe.

Also the fist fight ruins the group effor tin defeating the antispiral which again takes away from the message. In the Original Team Dai Gurren with their combined effort launches Simon to the Anti Spiral killing him it is humanity uniting towards a single goal.

The fist fight basically changes it entirely making it all Simon focused. Team Dai Gurren does very little to actually defeat the Anti Spiral and Simon essentially did everything.

Also Super TTGL becoming Kamina is dumb in hindsight as well.

It's Anti-kino and I'm tired of pretending it was good.

TV version of the last episode is better for the simple reason that i watched the TV version first therefore i like it more.
>>
>>287727724
You have no reason to exist yet here we are
the movies are perfectly fine and are even better for rewatch since they have a better pacing than the anime
>>
>>287728914
Also that is how it was intended to be viewed and the movie was made for people who already watched the TV series.
>>
The movie version of the battle is so much better. It always felt lackluster how Simon defeated the final boss in the anime, the final Giga Drill Break clash made it way more worth it.
>>
>>287728914
I actually watched the movies first and liked the TV version more.
>>
>>287728970
>muh pacing
People like you belong on a cross.
>>
>>287728970
The movies have awful pacing, retard. It skips all the conflict.
>>
The new fight scenes are good, but the story lost a lot of content. Specifically those slower episodes that developed the team were completely cut.
>>
>>287728970
This nigga doesn't rewatch endless eight.

>Haruhiboomers still think their self-insert LNslop is high art
>>
>>287728865
Well they do all fight in their mech 1 on 1 and it adds some interesting development (Nia standing on her own, Viral protecting her...)
I think it's a tradeoff, I like TTGL 27 better for its simple elegance but generally speaking some scenes are better and others are worse
>>
>>287729346
At least it isn't zoomsekai.
>>
>>287729450
Yeah, for example the part where they sink into the dimensional sea was done better in the anime.
>>
>>287729346
You need to be ensouled to understand it.
>>
>>287729499
Yeah but the Kittan transformation scene is also a lot weaker (worse soundtrack too).
>>
Overall I like the movies. The additions they made are fun, even if they come at the cost of the better buildup and pacing of the original, as well as the darker tone that makes the wins so much more satisfying. The movies are indulgent in how much more extra they are, and I'm fine with that. They're supposed to be watched supplementary to the original, so I'm not watching the shitenno fight in a vacuum, i'm watching it knowing they all sucked and died individually, and enjoying the team up. I'm seeing everyone that died last time survive and have happy endings, and because they survived we get bits of extra fun action sequences with their own Tengen Toppa variants showing that Yes, they unlocked spiral power too, not just Simon Kamina and Kittan, even if Simon just does it better and the whole fight revolves around him. And the flower fields are just absolutely necessary. After how depressing parts of the end of TTGL TV were, I enjoyed the indulgence of having more than an appropriate amount of positivity by comparison.
>>
>>287729731
The flower fields were nice but they came at the cost of replacing the scenes with Yoko, Viral, and the rest. Spoiling Nia's death during the battle was a mistake, although I guess it was made for people who already knew what's going to happen. I don't like how Nia writes to Kamina either.
>>
>>287729978
>Spoiling Nia's death during the battle
Nia is already flickering during the final battle in the original TV episode though. I think it's actually a fantastic scene to add the Antispiral actually calling out our guys for not even making this connection themselves and being reckless.
>>
>I have to let Nia disappear because......I just do, okay?!
>>

>Yoko x Simon
the ultimate Gattai.
>>
>>287730236
>Nia is already flickering during the final battle in the original TV episode though
I know, but it gets lost in the heat of the battle. Very few viewers actually made the connection. There had to be some kind of explanation for Nia’s disappearance at the wedding so it wouldn’t seem completely out of the blue. The movie basically tells you exactly what’s going to happen.

>resurrecting the dead using spiral powers is wrong

>resurrecting the dead using spiral powers is wrong

>>287730236
>calling out our guys for not even making this connection themselves and being reckless.
To be fair, they didn't all die this time, so the risk was less clear
>>
>>287730679
True, but at least they shouldn't have acted so surprised when the Antispiral revealed it. More like "this is what we feared". Reckless call to action is sometimes needed and a powerful drive but sometimes disastrous too.
>>
>>287730701
>Reckless call to action is sometimes needed
Another bit of nuance lost because of not getting the level-headed shithead Rossiu storyline showing what happens when you give up. Definitely the TV series gets things across better with the extra time it has, no question there.

Why does the second movie remove the shot of the spiral energy breaking the gauge and flowing out into the cockpit? It's a great shot and it's set up?

I just don't get why the movies gutted the Lordgenome fight the way they did. One of the best fights in the show reduced to a black and white flashback that basically skims through the whole fight with no new footage. Could've gone dramatic with the monochrome effect and given color to their respective spiral energy with red/green lights but nah, it's basically just used a glorified intro. It makes the cliffhanger of the first movie seem redundant when they could've just ended it with the Lordgenome fight.
>>
>>287736177
Because the first movie fucked up and ended before that.
Second movie incorporating the Parallel Work with Lordgenome at least was a great addition. Man, such a good part.

It's like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvuK5KyWBGg but with the Antispiral talking too

Kittan's seiyuu sounded like he was trying too hard in the 2nd movie
