I had a dream there was a new Evangelion series that was a direct sequel to EOE, picking up a few years after the Third Impact with Shinji and Asuka as the protagonists (kind of based on pic rel). Only three episodes were out but it was very mellow and atmospheric, post-apocalyptic, involved the two of them just trying to scavenge for shit and survive, occasionally finding the odd human that escaped instrumentality, kind of felt like episode 25 and 26 but as an entire show. A lot of inner monologuing too from both characters. Also people were fucking hating on it for being directionless, though the last episode I saw had a cliffhanger suggesting that Rei survived somehow.I've never seen the Rebuilds because they looked bad from the get go but a show like this would be kino

>>287774884Like the first post says, this just reads like fanfiction from the mid-2000s. Eva was never meant to be continued beyond what we see in EoE. There wouldn't be anything worth exploring, in-universe or thematically, and would only serve to satiate autists who have to know what happens. EoE is a fantastic ending, and after the way the Rebuilds turned out I don't want more Eva, especially if Anno is involved. Maybe the Yoko Taro show will do something interesting, but I'm not hopeful. Eva is lightning in a bottle and the only thing that comes close is the manga, and that's because Sadamoto has a stable head on his shoulders.

Shinji confesses to being an Eva pilot to his classmates, only to get beat up by Toji. He tries his best to be a pilot, only to put them at risk and for Misato to call him out on his deeds, no matter how good or successful they were. So he runs away because opening up to others hurts. But when it matters most he is shown support and love. Kensuke offers him food and somewhere to sleep. Toji tells him he respects him and wants them to be on equal terms. Misato respects his wish to leave but wants to see him off because she cares and feels responsible. His bonds with his classmates and Misato being there for him at the end of episode 4 give him a sense of belonging. He's happy. We get to see the pain and the payoff.
