People are focused on just the ending but the real issue was the final arc as a whole. Asta going to Hino could have maybe worked out well if those new characters actually played an important role in the final battle, and if the BBs received a similar training session with the Diamond crew and/or the dwarfs in the meantime. Jumping straight to the final battle was awful and made the Diamond crew's arrival completely random while leaving the dwarfs entirely unexplored. Lucius also needed way too more development than what he got, especially when he was the only villain with any agency and was thus responsible for carrying the whole conflict on his shoulders. He's genuinely one of the worst main villains in the entire genre.The anime is going to have to give us a long canon filler arc or maybe a couple of movies to fix the mess that is the final arc, but if it can manage that then the series as a whole will actually end up being great.

I remember how badly the author fumbled his previous work before the Black Clover, glad he managed to finish this one despite everything. Not the best Jump shounen but certainly among the most pleasant ones, especially from a fairly weak generation. I would rate it around Rave Master among all shounens which ain't bad by any means.

It's an odd feeling, somewhat sad. I started reading BC when the latest chapter was 10 or 11, and even though it was highly derivative and simple I found it sort of charming, and the fact that it always seemed like an underdog compared to its peers made it easy to root for.Obviously I would have liked to see a lot more but I understand Tabata has more important things to worry about. Still, I'm glad he was able to see it through to the end.It was fun while it lasted, but I'll miss these threads.
