Or any anime that run for over a decade with a single protagonist who has became a cultural icon. New protagonist has to live up to the original protagonist's legacy while following the same rules as the original protagonist which is near impossible. This often lead writers to turn the new protagonist into a Mary Sue which only makes the new protagonist unable to relate to new fanbase while old fanbase despise their guts.
> B-but Digimon , Yugioh , Precure
Those are short term seasonal anime with ether multiple protagonist or one original Mary sue protagonist. As I said that original protagonist has to live up to the original protagonist's legacy while following the same rules that original protagonist had to follow which is easier if the original protagonist themselves was a Mary sue . That;s why Yugioh & Gundam can rotate protagonist because Yami Yugi & Amuro were Mary sue. while Boruto failed because Naruto started off as a loser..
