Can you be an anime fan without having without or even know what NGE is? Basically, you can have some weird experience where you've watched shows that are far more niche. Like Kemono no Souja Eren, Twelve Kingdoms, Kaleido Star, Solty Rei, Yuma Kuma Arashi and 100 shows like this, but don't know NGE.
I didn't watch NGE till covid lockdowns and I've been watching anime since I was a kid. Not religiously though, only stuff that was on tvt. 30 year old
I watched it on adult swim out of order and have completely forgotten it as much as stuff like big o and outlaw star
It's as strange as not having seen something basic like Naruto or Pokemon or Dragon Ball, or whatever thing everyone has seen a little of even if they hate it. I know people will pile on me for this but the point I'm making is not that these shows are good, but that you must have popped in from a different planet to miss some of these.
