I recently visited some Yuru Camp and mono locations in Kofu, Nagano and Lake Hamana, as well as the 10th anniversary Yuru Camp exhibition in Hamamatsu which happened to coincide with my trip. I'll post photos of them in this thread but there's a lot so I'll do it in batches.I'll start with the exhibition. Entrance was free. The map was pretty cool.
These seem to be Afro's own photos when he did location scouting. Pretty cool.
>>287823444Fixed.
A fucking year.
This of course is Lake Hamana and Bentenjima. S2 Nadeshiko is so damn cute. I came back later before sunset but the the sun doesn't set between the torii in the spring, so I unfortunately couldn't recreate the view that Rin saw.
They must've forgotten to update this map to include the newly rebuilt observation deck.
View of the onsen that Rin went to from the front. Apparently it was reopened after being closed down or something.
This is amazing anon!
that's cool
The stairs that Rin took behind the building.>>287823748Thanks. I'm glad at least I'm not talking to myself.
>>287823792Are you the same anon from the Yuru Yuri and Teibou threads?Keep them coming.
I went around the lake by bike similar to how Nadeshiko did it but our routes differ slightly from the standard "Hamaichi" course. Not the best mode of transportation if you want to visit all of the locations in a single day though. This is Nagisabashi (or Nagisa bridge) where Nadeshiko and Ayano used to hang out together.
Mt. Fuji was NOT visible. Also the bridge was renovated recently or something.>>287823935Yuru Yuri, yes. Teibou, no. Now I'm curious.
Seriously, who in their right mind wouldn't recreate this iconic promo art?
>>287824011>renewed railingThe fuck?
>>287824039Safety is important
Just behind us is the campground that Rin stayed at.
Nagisaen Campsite.
Reception/administrative building interior. For some reason, this appears to be Ayano's turf.
Lots of merch, banners and cardboard cutouts for display or for sale, but it would be impractical for me to post photos of everything, so if you have any specific request, just let me know.I'll stop here for now and resume some time later, assuming this thread still lives.
>>287824279I'll wait.
>>287823368This is very cool thanks for sharing! Love the map.>>287823846where did the trees go???>>287823975damn you also did yryr, you're my goat holy shit
When will purple yuru camp with them??
I want to visit...
>>287824279Waiting
>>287823975>Mt. Fuji was NOT visibleWhat did they do with it?
>>287833771It's not real.
Sorry for the wait. Continuing on. Next we cross the Hamanako Oohashi, which I guess is translated as Lake Hamana Big Bridge.
The thought of crossing to the other side to get the exact angle crossed my mind, but that would be dumb.>>287833771>theyYou mean the guys at HAARP?
Next is the Kanzanji area, where the Kanzanji temple, an amusement park, eel restaurants, and the ichigo daifuku shop are located. The were literally a school of high school students walking on the bike path (I'm guessing they were on their Golden Week school trip) so I had to wade through them which was an amusing experience. The shop was not open on that day sadly. Japanese store owners have a weird quirk of choosing random days of the week as their off days.
They sure are enjoying the publicity.
Next is the Kiga area where Nadeshiko transferred to the Tenryū Hamanako (or Tenhama) Line. To this day, it still doesn't make sense why she would transfer here. The obanyaki shop was not open either sadly.
>>287834153What's inside of it?
Kiga Station. These unmanned train stations are cute.>>287834311I want to say a mini donation box, but I have no idea either. Didn't have time to take a proper look.
The junction at the foot of the hill where they parted ways.
Now that I've taken a closer look at it, I can spot the exact vegetation in the background shot. Would've been a perfect match if I had taken two steps to the right.
>When it gets warmer, I'll come visit Yamanashi. I'll haul myself out there on my scooter like you did.
It cannot be stated enough how ridiculous the hill climb is. I was on pedal assist but it was still a pretty physically demanding climb that increased my heartrate to almost 150 BPM. I can't imagine how Nadeshiko could do it on a mamachari while keeping up with Rin. She's definitely a cyborg.
Also the final leg of the route was quite narrow and had no guardrails. You would definitely at least break a few bones if you fell off the cliff. At least they repaved the path when they rebuilt the observation deck recently.
The newly paved path to the newly rebuilt observation deck.
I made a stupid mistake here. I was trying to figure out which direction the yurus were facing in the episode, but my screenshots were too dark to make out anything in the sun, so I just followed the promo art in which they're facing west, but now that I've checked properly, they're actually facing south in the episode. So all of my other shots that included the railings are not correct. But at least this one is faithful to the promo art.
>>287834814Good enough. Amazed how many shots you did well.
Bottom right: Hamanako Service AreaMiddle/middle right: KanzanjiMiddle left: Hamanako Bridge (Tomei Expressway)
After a thrilling and sketchy descent, we reach Sakume Station where Nadeshiko and Rin reunite.
>akemashite omedetou gozaimasuShe's such a well-mannered girl.
I love it when these places embrace their Yuru Camp association.
Black-headed gulls were NOT spotted. It really has to be winter, huh.
>かわいいでしょう?ユリカモメ
The famous eel restaurant. Don't even think about it if you're not willing to line up from morning.
>>287835141Where is that even? Which episode?
Heading to Nadeshiko's grandma's place.>>287835204It's roughly the same location as >>287835102, but facing the station building instead. Also all of these screenshots are from S2E3.
>Nadeshiko's house isn't real>Rin's house isn't real (kinda)>now Nadeshiko's grandma's house isn't real>the neighbor's house isn't real eitherThis can't be...
It's a pretty peaceful place and the view from here isn't half bad.
This concludes Lake Hamana. Next, I will post mono after a short break.
>>287835450Thank you for your services!
Unagi Pie is pretty delicious. It's crispy, sweet, and has a toasty taste though I can't really pinpoint the eel taste. It's also really easy too much of it. I can see why Nadeshiko loves it so much.
Commencing mono pilgrimage in Kofu. Starting off on the north side of Kofu Station.>>287823671Oh wait never mind, they did include it.
>cue upbeat piano riff
>SACCHAAAAAAAAAANOw my ears.
No photo rally gathering to be spotted here.
The gap between the toilet and the tree is a lot wider in real life so getting the right angle seems impossible.
Yamanashi Prefectural Library is just a stone's throw away. What I love about mono is that the setting is true to real life.
>>287826355Sakura is afraid to be that close to Rin. Something might happen and it would hurt Nadeshiko.Meanwhile Ayano is stealing Rin away from both of the Kagarihara sisters.
If you go further north and turn right when you reach Yamanote-dori, you'll reach this spot where you can see the monos ride into the tunnel under Mt. Atago where the prefectural science museum and the shrine with the purifying stone are. I really wanted to climb the mountain but I overestimated the time I had so I had no choice but to skip it.
I forgot. Before that:>>287837398If you enter the library and turn right, you'll be greeted by Sacchan.
If you turn left instead, you will find this restaurant where they had the huge hamburg steak. I had no intention of eating there so I didn't want to go inside and bother them.
The monos then headed west to take a bus to their next restaurant. I was also headed west but to Harayama Shrine that has a maruishi dousojin.A funny thing happened while I was taking this shot. A obaasan wondered what I was doing at that spot with my smartphone camera and asked me, so I told her I was doing a pilgrimage for an anime called mono, but she didn't seem to get it, so I showed her this picture. She thought it was amusing.
Walking to Harayama Shrine and going back to the station took longer than I thought, but finally, my first maruishi dousojin.
>85% roundness
Also another interesting thing that I noticed while taking these photos is that a lot of these shots in the anime are very low, like belly or chest level. The characters really are tiny.
Statue of Takeda Shingen outside the station south exit.
If you go to the book store on the fourth floor of the shopping mall that's connected to the station, you will find lots of mono and Yuru Camp, including the mono pilgrimage guidebook.
A page from the guidebook.
Impossible to get a closer angle due to the people sitting there.
You can pick up the mono pilgrimage map at the tourist information center. But my retarded self forgot that there was a Sakurako cutout there and forgot to look around there after getting my map. There's an anon who said he was going to visit Kofu after me, so if you're reading this, please avenge my stupid self and take a picture (or ten) of her.
If you go to the fourth floor of Yodobashi Camera which is right next door, you will find this mono/Yuru Camp corner.
I've always wanted to do this.
Her voice could cut through the entire store.
There was a banner each for Nadeshiko, Rin, Ayano, and Sacchan.
>Sakurako sold outSakurako stronk
Lewd Nadeshiko on the left.
Great thread OP. I once did a similar pilgrimage to Numazu for LoveLive Sunshine. This sort of thing such a fun way to enjoy a vacation.
Really cool photos anon. How long has your stay in Japan been? I've got a bunch of vacation days that I need to burn through and if I don't spend it visiting family it'd be nice to visit Japan for leisure and not for business.>>287823368>10th anniversary Yuru Camp exhibitionHoly shit, it's really been that long already? Sometimes it feels like just last year that I was watching Teekyuu and the short Yama no Susume seasons, Dungeon Meshi cooking threads were fresh on /tg/ and /a/, and the Campers were inspiring some anon to burn down Mexico. Time marches on.
>>287823792People always use these types of images to say>Oh, you'd hate Japan IRL. It looks so much dirtier than it's depicted in anime. But I always see these and think it looks comfy even with a little bit of grunge. Just something about the way everything is architected is appealing.Great thread, OP. Thank you for posting.
great thread thanks OP. do you anons do these pilgrimages alone?
Next is Maizuru Castle Park where Kofu Castle once stood. Also where the Cinephoto girls went did kite aerial photography. Definitely my favorite moment of the entire show.>>287838296That sounds cool. Izu is awesome. Having a tie-in with your favorite anime must be even better. Honestly I can't say my trip was 100% fun because it was also quite tiring (I tend to treat my vacation like an adventure, almost like an expedition, than going on a relaxing fun trip) and taking all those photos and videos was quite tedious, but it was a cool experience. I couldn't have it any other way.>>287838315>How long has your stay in Japan been?14 days. I'm already back at home though. I can't do this editing and posting unless I'm on my PC.>Holy shit, it's really been that long already?Technically it's the manga 10th anniversary, but I know what you mean. S2 felt to me like only a couple of years ago.>>287838452Anime makes everything look clean and perfectly geometrical, but my impression of real life Japan is that there's the element of the passage of time (mono no aware) and imperfection (wabi-sabi) which makes me appreciate the Japaneseness of Japan if that makes any sense.>>287838610Doing it alone is not the most fun to be honest, but it's the most convenient for me. I would hate it if someone slowed me down or started an argument.
>>287838959Solo travel is underratedYou can do what you want without being beholden to othersIf I'm ever rich, I'm gonna circumnavigate the globe alone once, then retreat into a goblin cave for the rest of my life to play vintage story and rewatch yurucamp and others on repeat until I die
>ギュオーン>>287838972Based. Another cool thing about Japan is how solo travelers are quite common and they don't ostracize them. Talking about solo travel also made me remember Zatsu Tabi.
I think this is the right location though the angle could've been better.
>はーい
>energetic youthful BGM starts playing
>>287823368Man, I wanna visit Nagano one day. The Alpine Route looks interesting.
>>287839184I think it's okay but can be overrated depending on the weather and season. It was April and snowing/raining for me so I was suffering a bit and visibility was poor so there wasn't any view on all of my cable car rides. Also:>full of people>had to reserve a web ticket in advance, otherwise you might be screwed. Also means there's one day on your trip that is fixed and not flexible in case of bad weather or a change of plans>Bijodaira station restaurant was reservation only>the pond near Bijodaira station was still frozen and hiking trailed were still covered in snowPerhaps mid to late May might be better when it's less crowded and some of the snow has thawed. You're still at the mercy of the weather though.
Posted the wrong files.
>>287839441My action camera isn't wide enough for this, but I think it's good enough.
>>287839441that'd have been really funny if you brought a fish eye lens just for that shot.
>上手すぎ>でしょー!I didn't check properly, but I think each stair is quite tall and the average nip JK can't run up these stairs.
Part of me thought of recreating their run and uploading it on Strava, but the more sensible part of me said nope.
Mono legs.
>I do wish we'd tilted it down a little bit more.>Yeah. That might have captured everything.>Shall we try again?
>Shikishima-san? Is something wrong?>No. It's nothing.
>We finally decided on the Cinephoto Club
Fuji-san was visible from the tower! Now I get why they're all unfazed by it.
Now it's the area in front of the park entrance >>287838959The fence on the left seems to be gone now. There seems to be some sort of a community center now.
>The Phoilm Club!>The Mo-shot Club!
There's still a few of Kofu left, but I think I'll pause here.
By the way, I was hoping for a Yuru Camp train, but instead this train stopped at Sakume Station when I was taking pictures. >>287835102Should I know who/what this is?
>>287823368photo ok, but no video? why?
I wish Japan were real.
An best mono
>>287837289>cute mono is actually an old man
Not far from >>287840303 is the souvenir store that has the stamp for Maizuru Castle Park. Don't forget to buy kikyou shingen mochi too. You can refer to Yuru Camp or Maid-san wa Taberu dake on how to eat it.
Not far from the souvenir store is the first chicken curry restaurant that Haru visited but was closed.
Not too far from the restaurant is the Kofu City Hall. I didn't enter it but there might be a mono cardboard cutout there so it'd be nice if someone could confirm it.
A bit further west from the city hall is the location of what seems to be the model for the monos' school in the manga (not the anime). The kids literally just got out of school and I didn't want to look like a suspicious person so I snapped my photo as quickly as I could. I hope I'm not on some kind of a list.
>>287841760 concludes Kofu. As you can probably tell, exploring the Kofu Basin by public transportation kinda sucks. A rental bicycle would've helped but there doesn't seem to be any near Kofu Station. A motorcycle is probably the best.Next is the area surrounding Ryuo Station. The Cinephoto girls were here during the Manpuku Photo Rally arc and the maruishi dousojin arc.
I love pilgrimage threads, bless you Anon.
>>287843200You too anon.
>>287843185Did they have to remove the mascot from the anime?
After a 5 minute walk, I found my second maruishi dousojin. Cue honky-tonk piano BGM.>>287839574The lens probably would've helped here too.>>287843465Probably. Mascots are serious business in Japan.
There's another shot of An squatting down. Looking back at it now, it's quite clear which of the three roads she's showing her back to, but at that time, I was trying to match the real life background with the anime, but most of the buildings didn't match, the road looked much narrower and the angle looked a bit off which threw me off. Plus the intersection was really busy at that time and I didn't want to bother anyone so I gave up on that shot. Probably should've taken that photo anyway.
Oh yeah, there was Kako in the Ryuo Station building.
The next and final stop in the Kofu Basin is Nirasaki.
Yuru Camp hijack lol (it appeared in the embellishment camp arc in S3 or whatever it's called)
>Aki-chan, what's that?
You can find the mono stamp for Nirasaki in that building.
It's the Heiwa Kannon statue seen in both shows. Mt. Fuji isn't visible in this shot which was taken much later but it's visible in the earlier shots.
>>287844578Damn I didn't even know this existed / was real.
Goddamn, it's literally a photo.
I tried to take a sunset time-lapse like Satsuki did, but the lens isn't wide enough, the sun was already about to disappear behind the mountains, and I probably should've angled it a bit more to the right. Also the FOV of her timelapse is over 180 degrees so yeah, you definitely need a 360 camera for this. It is what it is.
There's like a small park in the alcove where they hung out and took the time-lapse. It's not on street view and I think there's zero footage of it on Google Maps.
>>287844955
And this concludes Nirasaki and the Kofu Basin. There's still Nagano but I'll stop here for now. I feel like I've gone overboard so maybe I should post fewer pictures.
>>287845511Thanks for the photos bro. I'd would love to do that sort of trip as well.
>>287845511>finding locations>mapping them to episodes and taking screenshots>going to the locations (in a foreign country)>finding the screenshot again and trying to match the viewpoint>collecting all photos and editing them with the screenshots>posting hundreds of images hereThanks anon, that must have been a lot of effort.
>>287845983You hit the nail on the head. Thanks for recognizing the effort (and time) taken. I have gained more respect for people who do this kind of stuff. It's really difficult for a non-Japanese without their own transport to do this stuff within the allocated time, so even though it wasn't perfect, I'm grateful I managed to complete my pilgrimage.
I really love threads like this. They allow my broke ass to feel like I'm actually visting Japan from my phone, and they’re always very comfy and wholesome. It's nice change from the arguing, drama, and constant slurs in other threads.>>287839612>>287839986>>287840130I love how Kiriyama always showing off her bare legs is her most consistent outfit trend, no matter what she's wearing. She’s definitely proud of those sexy legs, as she should be. Her soft thighs belong to Satsuki.
Cool pilgrimage
Very nice photos anon, thanks for taking the time to share. Do you have a favourite place from your trip? Or a place you would consider worth visiting regardless of its appearance in anime?>>287823371Having a huge map in the center of the room makes it feel like a war room. Now we wait for Yuru Yuri.
I want to go on one of these pilgrimages
Nice trip. Thanks for sharing.
Recently I started watching Hibi meshi.I don't want to naysay it but I think they appeal to actually quite different audiences since I didn't find it as appealing compared to the monos.
I can't believe it's getting a season 4.
>>287854128Mono was kinda bland, and focused way more on the hags. HIbimeshi is a lot funnier. Much more appealing character designs.
>>287855721I'm not trying to pick a fight, I just liked mono more.
>>287855478black leggings really activate my neurons
>>287849531I love Fujisan so much that I will post this picture too. I thought the city was far from Mt. Fuji, but it still looked really big. Much bigger than portrayed in the anime.>Do you have a favourite place from your trip? It's hard to say. There's no one place that really stood out. The experience of visiting the Yuru Yuri cafe in Takaoka was cool. Matsumoto Castle (which I will share later) was beautiful, but it needed less than an hour to enjoy and explore. Lake Hamana had a lot of amazing locations like Bentenjima, the observation deck and Hamamatsu Flower Park, but sadly I was rushing too much to really enjoy the moment. Lake Suwa was great too, although half a day was more than enough.I think I will go with Kamikochi (which I will also share later). Beautiful mountains, clear river and fresh clean air.
I'll just post this quickly before we move on to Nagano. This is the Sannomachi street in Takayama that appeared in a flashback in S2E1.
Lake Suwa in Suwa, Nagano.
>Suuwaaakoo! Tsuitaa! This is the northbound Lake Suwa Service Area. It's a bit tricky to access from the lake if you don't know the way. I got there by bike (no pedal assist this time) and there's a decent hill climb to reach it which I thought was pretty fun and not overly difficult.
The mono stamp for Lake Suwa (this time it's Sakurako) is in the main building in the souvenir section.
There's the smaller bathhouse building located at the end.
There's this bathhouse that the monos visited before Haruno remembered Mt. Kirigamine.
And finally there's Takashima Castle that Rin visited in the credits of S1E5. By the way, the Yatsugatake mountains were visible from the lake and they were beautiful.
Matsumoto Castle in Matsumoto. Nice city to act as a base for anything Nagano.
There's a nighttime version if you prefer it. Beautiful castle, though Himeji Castle is a bit more beautiful if you ask me.
Extremely cool OP, I’ve been meaning to travel there myself but haven’t had time with work and other commitments, hoping for next year at the latest. How long were you there for and how much did it set you back? Considering the time and effort to find and organize these spots do you live or work there?
>Today, we are going to Kurobe Dam per Sakurako-chan's request>Ohhhhhh! They're doing the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route the opposite direction to mine, so I'll follow their order instead.>>287859737I hope you get to do it. It was a 14 day trip and I spent the equivalent of around 2600 USD (and that's after a last minute flight and hotel change), but it might not be helpful to you since my flights were a bit cheaper since I live on the west side of the Pacific.>Considering the time and effort to find and organize these spots do you live or work there?Nah, just someone who spent too much time obsessing over random SoLs and planning Japan trips.
Always wanted to do a pilgrimage. Cool stuff anon.
Everyone was rushing to board the bus so taking a proper shot was literally impossible. I probably could've gone for the first bus at the front which probably would've been at platform 4 too.
>>287859826Are lodgings that much cheaper outside of the major cities?
>>287859983Generally yes, up to a point. Though if it's too rural that there are only a handful of ryokans, it gets expensive instead. Depends on the season and how early you book them too.Surprisingly, my hotel in the Kanazawa Station area was relatively cheap for a big city but the room was decently sized and the breakfast was great. The actual city center is over a km away though so that's probably why, but it served my needs.
The dramatic documentary wasn't airing. Was I lied to?
The area overlooking the north side of the dam, including the observation deck, was unfortunately closed off due to bad weather. Well, at least it reduced my workload and I didn't have to face my fear of heights.
Kurobe Dam Rest House where they had dam curry.
>mama, why is that man taking pictures of the ceiling and the wall?
This is the area with lots of benches outside the rest house.
You see a lot of others doing the same trip?
>>287860687Derp.
>>287860700Accidentally deleted the post instead of the file.>>287860617Depends what you mean. If it's this specific leg of my trip which is the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, it's ridiculously popular and crowded during the snow wall season. If you're referring to doing an anime pilgrimage, I didn't notice anyone doing the exact pilgrimage I was doing, though I did encounter the same cyclist multiple times in the Kanzanji area of Lake Hamana. There were two other people on the Lake Hamana observation deck too though I'm not sure whether they were there because of Yuru Camp or not.
lmao
Oh and the section with the monument was also closed off, due to construction if I'm not mistaken.
And so this concludes Kurobe Dam. All that's left is Kamikochi. This is a bit tiring so I'll stop here for now.
>>287859278Something to note regarding the Lake Suwa service area. There's a southbound service area on the other side of the highway which would require me to go down to the lake to access the trail to the other service area. That service area appeared in S2E7 of Medalist. I wanted to visit it but my bike rental time was almost up so I had to skip it.
>>287855776That's fine, I just wish I liked mono more. Yuru Camp is one of my all time favorites.
>>287860790May I know what model of action cam did you use? Would you recommend it?
>>287862752DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro. It's my first one, but yeah, it's great. The only downside is that the fidelity isn't really native 4K even if you record in 4K, unless I'm doing something wrong, but I think that's to be expected from action cameras.
>>287859906>pic even has the same bus
