>Shibuya Near Family chapter 160: Looks like Eru-kun will get caught

>Haa
>Haa

>Haa
>Haa

>You broke the traffic rules,
>didn't you!

>(*Twing*)

>(GYAAAAAHH!)

>How did things end up like this, you ask...?

This sequence is a reference to Karakuri Circus by Kazuhiro Fujita, which was serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1997 to 2006, running alongside Kumeta's Katteni Kaizou for most of its run.

>Shibuya doesn't even have a *traffic park*...

>Doesn't Yoyogi Park have one?
>That course is used by lovebirds to go on romantic bike rides together! You can't use it as a traffic park!
Yoyogi park has paved cycling routes with occasional pedestrian crossings and such, but like Ikko says it's not really a traffic park.

>That's true.
>I guess it doesn't really have a traffic park vibe.
>They apparently got new rental bikes recently, though.

>Even though this city is filled with all these dangers,
>there's simply no place where we can learn the traffic rules!

>The only conclusion you can draw from this is that the ward administration doesn't value children's lives!
>Let's see...

>Minato ward
>doesn't have one either.

>Why do you look so triumphant?
>I don't look triumphant!

>Ultimately,
>the reason they can't build a traffic park here is because the land is too expensive.

>True... There's plenty of them in cheap-looking places.
>That's a rough way of phrasing it...

>But if this goes on, and we don't learn the traffic rules,
>then the moment we turn sixteen, we'll be getting so many tickets we'll be a police officer's dream come true!

>You want me to take you to a traffic park in some far-away ward?
>We don't have any in Shibuya, so it's the only way.

>A traffic park, huh... That takes me back.

>They seem to also have one in Meguro ward right next to us, though.
>If we're going elsewhere anyway, might as well go somewhere with a lot of space, right?
>It's a bit far, though.

>Seems like they gave you a hazing over at the other ward.
>That was no environment for learning traffic rules.

>Don't places like that have retired police officers keeping them under strict supervision?
>Just where are Shibuya kids supposed to learn traffic rules?

>We can no longer rely on the ward administration in this matter.
>Mister Equal!

>Koen-dori Elementary School
>must create its own, original traffic safety program!

>VR Traffic Park!
>(Oooh!)

>This way, we can have one even though we don't have the space for it.
>It really feels very Shibuya.

>(*Empty...*)

>It's realistic and all, but it's so simple that it gets boring.
>There aren't any trucks or anything like that.
>It is still just a VR *traffic park*, after all.

>However, this VR traffic park actually has a hard mode, as well.
>I wanna try that!

>Hm?

>Wah-hooo!

>I feel like I've seen this before...

>Gyaaaah!
>How's the hard mode?

>Was it realistic?
>Very much so.

>But something like this won't improve my traffic safety skills at all!
>What about traffic signs and hand signs, and stuff like that!?

>We're doing that part properly,
>and getting the police to come to the school to cover it for us.

>Banner: Traffic Safety Lesson

>Now *this* is what I'm talking about.

>(*Serious*)

>So, did you learn any skills from that?
>Absolutely.

>What does the red light mean, Ken-chan?
>Go across.

>What kind of skills did she learn, exactly?
>That's wrong, Ken-chan.
>Apparently they still do ventriloquism at traffic safety lessons.

>I'm not Ken-chan, though.
>D-don't talk!

>I knew it! A human won't do!
>(*Shove*)
>I want a proper puppet!

>A proper puppet!

>Shibuya Duty Diary - I want to run on the sidewalk even if I have to pay a fine.

>Sidebar: And thus, Ikko-chan got her hands on a marionette. Who knows, she might become a master like "Shirogane" one day...
Shirogane refers to a group of talented marionette controllers in Karakuri Circus, and is also the name of one of the series' main characters who is a member of the aforementioned group.

Thanks for reading! Now, Sunday is going to be on break next week due to Golden Week, and in addition to that, Shibuya Near Family will be taking next issue off. So the next chapter will be out three weeks from now.

No worries, Kumeta pulled a double duty of sorts this week by 'animating' a part in Yuusha no Rokkotsu de. Should be enough to tide everyone over. Then again, that one didn't have as much social commentary. Or a marionette.

Thank you for translating, as always. Isn't Golden Week this week, though?

It makes me sad when most manga get no attention while we have the same threads getting spammed every day. Such is life.

with a bike, you can go anywhere you want.

I don't see how having more attention on something you like is good. in fact, it's most likely a detriment!
-there's more nitpicking
-larger chance of having weirdos
-flame wars around pointless things
-more people who dislike it coming into your thread to shit it up
